Steam false smoke alarms

I have now removed all of my smoke alarms because steam will set them off from a short shower. I'm so frustrated with this I may get rid of simply safe. If I move the smoke alarms to different locations they will now no longer be properly protecting my house. They're currently located in hallways near bedrooms. Where else am I supposed to move them? I have small children and I have to shower either early in the morning or late at night. Waking up the entire family because I took a shower is completely unacceptable. I've called multiple times to get this resolved with no luck. Time to get rid of SimpliSafe?

Hi @Zman,

I'm sorry to hear this. It is our recommendation to install the Smoke Detector away from anything that produces steam to prevent false alarms. If you reach out to our Support team, they will be able to help you find a new place to install your Smoke Detectors in real time.

@emily_s the issue with moving them is I have big holes in my ceiling where I used to have wired smoke alarms. I have been simply placing the SimpliSafe smoke sensors over these holes. These locations were set by the manufacturer of the home. If there's no way to fix this outside of moving them I guess I'm going to need to get rid of them and go back to my old style smoke alarms... Very disappointed... There's not even visible steam in the area... Are the newer smoke alarm/co sensors better at preventing false alarms?

Our new 2-in-1 Smoke & CO Detector does feature new technology that can distinguish between different types of particles. So yes, there's a reduced chance of false alarms.

That being said, the Smoke Detector piece does still work in a similar way. So there's still a chance that steam (especially if it's a lot of steam) can trigger.

I would suggest giving the Smoke & CO Detector a try. Don't forget, all of our products do come with a 60 Day Money Back Guarantee if purchased from our online store. So you can return it if it doesn't work for you.
