Smoke detector

My smoke detector will go off for no reason.  No smoke, not cooking, I changed out the battery, blew out the detector area and it will be good for about a week then go off again.  Any suggestions?

Hi Rosepedal35,

We're not sure if by "blew out" you mean that you used a vacuum cleaner to clean out the grills of the the Smoke Detector, but that is what we would suggest. The Smoke Detector can trigger from any tiny particles that can get into the chamber, so we also wouldn't recommend that you keep it in a dusty environment (like a basement or attic), or in front of a vent that could blow even more dust particles into the unit.

But yep, troubleshooting fails, please give us a call at 800-548-9508 and we'll be happy to replace that unit for you.

I share this story when this topic comes up but also look out for high humidity that is not necessarily related to a shower. Last summer I had issues with my HVAC and the house was over 60% humidity and we had a few false alarms. As soon as the HVAC situation was sorted out we never got another false alarm.
