Carbon Monoxide detector defect/shortage
Apologies if there's already been a post about this subject, but there's no easy way to search for past ones, so I looked back as far as I could.
In early December, my carbon monoxide detector started malfunctioning. I opened a ticket, and they said they would send a replacement.
On December 19th, they told me they were backordered, and asked that I follow up on Jan 2nd, as that is when they'd be getting in replacements. So, I set a calendar reminder, and followed up on Jan 2nd as requested.
At that point, they responded by saying my replacement was processed, but "with the vast influx of replacements for this particular component from the manufacturer, it may take a bit to arrive".
Okay, fair enough.
On Jan 3rd, however, I got a shipment notification from UPS. "Great!" I thought.... but then....
On Jan 11th, I still hadn't heard anything, so I followed up, and they said, "Your order is awaiting pickup from UPS currently and should be headed out no later than the first of the week."
That would have been Jan 14th.
On Jan 16th, I had still not heard anything, and the shipment was still showing as "Ready for UPS"... so I followed up again. I was told, "The tracking number shows ready for pickup still because the shipping label was created for the order, however the CO detectors are still currently on back order due to a reprogramming of the operation algorithm."
So, I continued to wait.
Today, I followed up and was told, "Unfortunately, we do not have any information on when we will be restocked with CO detectors. When we are restocked, your order will automatically be processed."
So, I've now been with a partially functional CO detector in my system that emails me twice a day to tell me it's malfunctioning for 2 Months.
Since I can't trust it to actually work, I had to buy another non-Simplisafe one to use in place of it.
Does anyone know what's going on?

My question for the group was, "Does anyone know what's going on?"
If you would like.. I can elaborate: "Has anyone heard any more information about what is going on with the CO detectors?"

We can only assume that they're "out of stock".
Since Simplisafe doesn't manufacture their own products, I would attribute a shortage to be on manufacturing side, and since Simplisafe has zero control over that, they'll let us know when they have them in stock, when they actually get that information.
Regardless of whether simplisafe has them in stock, You Should not be using Simplisafe Carbon Monoxide detectors without existing Carbon Monoxide detectors already in place. They're for Monitoring Purposes only. They are meant to be used in conjunction with your existing Carbon Monoxide Detectors.
It says so in the User manual for the Carbon Monoxide Device.
Cheers,

Message: CO Detector Malfunction Upstairs CO malfunctioning, needs service or replacement
Battling another SimpliCam issue at the same time, same problem I had on a unit in my garage just ~3 weeks ago.

That does not make a lot of sense. Why would I have a SS CO detector and someone else's CO detector in the same location? If the SS CO detector is for "monitoring only", then I don't need it; a local one will do all I need (alert to dangerous condition when people are there where the dangerous condition is).

I don't get why this is so hard for some people to understand. And with the near-constant problems SS has with their monitors, I don't know why anyone would trust them anyway at this point as a sole CO monitor.

Yes, you do not NEED it. Because you should already have CO detectors in place.
However, you're completely ignoring the part about "monitoring purposes only". Monitored CO and Smoke detectors will call the first responders. Your stand alone CO/Smoke detectors will not.

No, I'm not ignoring the monitoring aspects of CO detectors. If nobody is home, then remote monitoring of CO is not critical, and if someone is home, the local alert is what I am most concerned with. Smoke detection is a different story entirely, and I believe in both local and monitored versions of that.

"The Simplisafe CO detectors are to be used as stand-alone detectors, there is no need for a back-up unit as stated by an earlier post. "
This is completely false information. The Simplisafe CO detectors are NOT stand alone units. They are meant for monitoring purposes only, and most definitely do not replace your exisiting CO detectors.

You don't have to believe me.
Call the customer support line, and ask to speak with a supervisor.
