Are the Smoke/CO2 detectors less prone to false alarms the the normal smoke detectors?

Like everyone else, I'm plagued with false alarms (sometimes during the day, sometimes at 3am - super pleasant). I was talking to tech support on the phone and he didnt seem to know if the newer smoke/CO2 detectors were less prone to false alarms or not. Does anyone know? They offered to replace 2 of my detectors with the same model, but it seems like its replacing trash with trash. Houses are dusty, I've never ever had a false alarm from dust from any other smoke detector I've ever had (if there is one, its cuz someone is in the shower).

Hi @justaguyontheinternet ,

Yes, the 2-in-1 Smoke and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector offers greater accuracy so that it's able to tell the difference between actually dangerous smoke, and just food burning in the kitchen. There's even a different warning when the unit is detecting trace amounts of particles, vs. a full alarm.

That being said, it may be possible that dust has gotten into your existing unit(s), and if cleaning doesn't help (vacuuming around the grills every couple of months should do), then a replacement is the next step.

Our Warranties are only able to cover replacements for exact models. But if you continue to have trouble even after the replacement, let us know and we'll request a call from our escalation team to explore further options.

@davey_d I understand the company's position, but I'm one false alarm away from finding a new alarm company. Rolling the dice and seeing if they keep going off in the middle of the night and terrorizing my kids is not an option

Absolutely!!! 100% this. What is worse is now, if I am leaving for a trip, last thing before I leave, I take the smoke detectors offline. Too many false alarms and NO WAY TO STOP THE SIREN if you are not on-site.

And yet I have six of the original SS3 smoke sensors and one of the new 2nd gen and no false alarms since 2018 AFTER I read the owners manual. I now clean them every other month.  (Hope I didn't just jinx myself. :-)

Add to that over two dozen other SS3 systems placed and no issues with their smoke or CO sensors either. Something in placement, defective unit etc has to be in play.
