Smart Lock

I don't have the keypad installed on one of the locks and it's fine.  I actually use my key most of the time but it is nice to have the option to use my phone when I forget my key.  I don't use the key fob, so I can't speak for that.

You don't need to install the PIN Pad outside, no. We would still recommend it, though. If WiFi/cell is unavailable, your Base Station may not be able to receive commands from the app.
But since the PIN Pad uses local wireless, and not WiFi, you'll still be able to use it to unlock your door.

Also, you don't need to use adhesive -- the pin pad includes a screw install option, which is what I used (a few hours ago!).
