Can Two Smart Locks Work Independently

If we added 2 smart locks (front and back doors- can we keep the front door locked, but the back door unlocked?
We like to keep our front door locked at all times, but often go in and out the back door.
Do they work independently?

Does having two smart locks make sense or work?
