In Progress

Outdoor Camera buzzing when active

Our camera engineering team is investigating a rare issue with the Outdoor Camera, which generates a loud buzzing when activated - e.g. when livestreaming from the SimpliSafe app. The noise seems to be coming from the unit itself, and not just the camera feed.

We have not yet found a cause, but if you are experiencing this issue, please let us know here.

Try speaking through the microphone on your phone. It seemed to snap the camera out of the buzzing.

We are experiencing this issue and would appreciate a solution once available.

I just purchased the wireless outdoor camera a few weeks ago, and am experiencing similar issues.  It is mounted in a quiet location, yet the buzzing and other distortion make the sound unusable, I am contemplating a return if there is not a fix.  Please advise.

@ajesudowich Our engineers have made progress in this fix, but it's not quite ready to be rolled out yet. I would recommend reaching out to our Support team for a replacement.

Both my outdoor cameras have this problem. When the microphone is activated, there is a buzzing sound.

Seems I’ve got the issue with the outdoor camera. I’ve heard the buzzing when viewing live.
I also heard the noise while changing the battery.

Any update here? This has gotten worse on the first camera it effected and has started on a second one as of today. 3 more to go and they’ll all be useless!

@chrismmmmmm Our engineers are working on a fix, but it is not ready to be rolled out yet. I would recommend replacing your two cameras that are experiencing this buzzing. Our Support team can help with that.

My camera has been producing a loud buzzing/fluttering static noise in live mode

One of my outdoor cameras just started doing this recently…I changed the battery today, and noticed it was from the camera itself, not the feed! Good to know someone is working on it!

One of our cameras started making noise recently.  Noise happens in app and when the camera is up on the app noise comes from camera also.  Any idea on how long until the fix will be available?

My camera stopped working and when I replaced the battery it beeped but then started buzzing from the camera. Camera does not work with fresh battery. I switch cameras to test the base and the different camera worked.

3 brand new cameras from 2 different retailers all with the same issue. A fluttering static noise when activating live mode. Can't hear anything else but the static. Hope the fix comes soon.

Same for me.  Sounds like the wind is howling but there is not even a breeze as I stand here in front out the camera.

Still no fix?

Yes my outdoor camera is also doing this. And the noise is clearly coming from the camera itself. Will you notify me when there’s an update? It’s very annoying making the camera unusable for sound.

When I go to a live view of my outdoor camera, a loud humming noise starts from the hardware. It’s only on one of my cameras, the others don’t make the noise.

@jason_d_galvez your issue sounds like what's going on in this thread, so I merged your comment here.

Right now the issue is still under investigation. As some users note, you can try activating the 2-Way Communication while livestreaming (using the Microphone button). That might stop the buzzing temporarily.

The issue itself doesn't seem to affect any other functions of the system. But we'll keep you updated when we get closer to a fix.

Mine does the same thing and has since I bought it. Not satisfied with the system being so noisy.

@mdsdec27 Your comment sounded similar to this known issue, so I moved it into this thread.

Our engineers are currently investigating this issue. Some users have found that turning on 2-way audio while livestreaming through the camera temporarily pauses the buzzing sound. I would recommend giving that a try to see if it works for you as well.

Once our engineers find a solution to this issue, we'll provide an update in this thread.

I have had this issue for months as well.  Unfortunate that the engineers have been slow to assess and provide a fix.  We had an incident at home recently and I want to buy another outdoor camera but am concerned it will have the same issue.
