Webinar: Advantages of Closed Security Eco Systems

With CES 2020 kicking off this week, I thought it would be a good idea (okay, at least to me) to attempt to make Simplisafe's state of the art 1997 website a bit more interesting with a simulated (aka fake) webinar on a topic that may be interested to many.

So, for today's fake webinar:

"Closed Security Eco Systems: Good policy or lacking innovation".  A moderated online debate if Simplisafe's closed eco system enhances security for its users or hinders innovation.  By closed eco system for the purpose of this fake webinar is defined as no enhanced integration with 3rd party hardware or software providers.  For illustrative purposes, with Echo or Google Assistant, one may arm their system but  not disarm.

Begin.

Given the past and growing incidents of hacks into more and more products and services, I support Simplisafe's approach of slow and easy on 3rd party integrations.  Encryption with SS3 was a major milestone in SS's product evolution and do not want that compromised.

Your thoughts? Please post here.

Next week: How to address Simplisafe's abysmal annual support problems.

The problem, however, with not being competitive, is that your customers will leave you behind.  Customers obviously don't care about hacks, customers want all the latest and greatest at whatever the cost and risk, and they want it now.  (and no, I'm not one of them, I can walk to the door to lock it, I can turn on or off the lights myself, I can look something up or turn on the music and don't need to ask a little thing on the table that's probably listening to my rants anyway :)

I can only imagine what people would do if there was a grid crash - OMG, however will they function!

@coltmaster1 thanks for participating!  I like the closed, fenced off SS3 system, as it is more secure. Possibly SS could introduce their own hub with Star Trek like security...oops, forgot about those pesky Borg.... to keep the hackers out. Without that, willing to wait for expanded Simplisafe equipment.

Others?

I'm not much into tech, but I'd love to play with the robots, like Kiki, who was at CES last year, oh what am I saying, she'd fit right in at my house :)

Oh, sorry, Captain, didn't mean to hijack your webinar!

colt, LOL.  There isn't a real webinar to hijack.  Just like to attempt to breath some new life into these forums.

Well, to some degree, it would be nice for SS to stick with what SS knows, but the problem I have with that is that they still don't know it "well"! (i.e., new product issues, some of which never seem to get resolved - and of course, customer service).

@colt, good point and another example was the door lock launch. I think it was not that well coordinated and SS could have done a much better launch. Website, installation instructions, training for support reps etc appeared to be very haphazard.

And what about SS3, it was users who had to figure it out :)  And the defective CO detectors.  Just a couple examples of putting the cart before the horse.

Now, perhaps your lock is working great, but I personally would be concerned with the issue of not being able to unlock from inside, I cannot believe this is user or user-install error - it's an issue that demands a fix because in that state, it IS a safety issue.

So, in keeping within the 'webinar', I personally, would like to see SS focus on improving/fixing existing products before spending another dime on advertising and newer products (with the exception of the long-awaited outdoor cameras, but I won't be buying one).
