Photo/Video-Based Motion Detection

A suggestion would be to create a new montion sensor with photo verification as used on another popular system. I think this would be a great idea.

Hi lukedd,

This is interesting. Could you expand more on what you're expecting from this kind of feature?

We do have Intelligent Motion Detection on our cameras, where the image is scanned by an algorithm to determine whether or not to trigger (that's how the "People Only" mode works). But of course, that uses the actual camera, and the image sensor and lens setup significantly drives up cost.

That being said, the current Motion Sensor just uses infrared detection, and there's still a lot of room for that to improve.

I believe he means detecting specific people a la the Google product. So it knows the owners and won't trigger but presumably might trigger on a stranger.

I think this would also be a great idea BUT please sort out your motion detection in general first before you tackle something like this. Y'all need to prove you can walk reliably before you can run.
