Live guards a la Deep Sentinel

Now that you guys offer an outdoor camera, you should also offer a live guard option like Deep Sentinel.  I already have a full SS system in my home, but I am strongly considering adding Deep Sentinal as an added layer of security; however, I would actually prefer to keep everything within the SS ecosystem and I feel like you guys have the ability to do that now.  I would gladly pay an additional monthly fee for this added level of security and I'm sure many of your other subscribers would do so as well. You have a much wider reach than Deep Sentinel too, so I feel like you could offer a superior solution overall.  Adding this option would make SS virtually perfect in my opinion.

Hi all!

In case you missed the news, we recently launched a new Beta Program for 24/7 live guard protection, a new service with a similar purpose to this request - rolling out first with the upcoming Smart Alarm Indoor Camera. Check it out here!

Couldn't you do that yourself with the 2-way audio?  I think that has been one of the selling points to the video doorbells from any company.  Get a notification, view the video, say something through the speaker and send them running.

Of course but what about when you're sleeping or when you just can't get to your phone?   There's something to be said for having a "live guard' monitoring your property 24/7.  I know I would sleep better at night knowing that someone was watching my home while my family sleep.  It would a great first line of defense.

Well, if you look at it that way, why have any other security system?  Just have cameras around your house and forego anything else.  You will have someone watching you 24/7.
But it's also just like a security system- if someone wants to get into your house, a person yelling through a camera or a siren going off isn't going to stop them.  Police aren't likely to be waiting in their patrol car just down the street, so expect at least a minute or two for a response.  If it's a smash-and-grab, they will have your TV and be gone before the police show up.
I have long said of any security system- it's just a tool to help you, not physically stop an intruder.  I have the means available to me to do that myself.
If it helps you sleep and you are willing to pay the extra, then perhaps there is a larger market for it and it certainly has value to you.  It could be an addition to the monitoring plans that SS offers, but it would probably take a larger monitoring force to keep up with the false alarms.
I guess it all comes down to a personal cost/benefit analysis.

Agreed but it's definitely more of a deterrent.  If someone is looking to get into your house and someone comes over a speaker and tells them to leave, chances are they will comply.  And if they decide they still want go break in, my SS system will go off.  Nothing is 100% of course but I'm just trying to keep my family as safe as possible.  Yes, there is always the chance of a smash and grab but if I'm a thief, I'm avoiding the home with cameras and a security system.

I'm not really following you on the false alarms though.  With live guards watching they should know whether or not it's a situation that requires a call to the police.  I don't see how that would cause false alarms.  If anything, it would lower the number of false alarms.

Sorry for not being clear on the false alarms, I just mean that IF the monitoring center is getting a notification every time the camera detects a person, there could be "false alarms" for the monitoring company every time the UPS person drops a package on the porch, a neighbor drops by, kids come to the door, etc.  If it's truly 24/7, then I would think that each of these would trigger a notification for the monitoring center to review.  Sorry for the confusion, I just meant false alarm for the video review, not for a police dispatch.

hondaman88:  My understanding is that there's an AI element to it that learns as it goes so that it can distinguish between let's say a UPS delivery guy and someone who is trying to break into your home.  It will then send an alert to a live guard only when there is a threat that needs to be addressed.  Now how does it know that it's a UPS guy vs someone who is just dressed in brown and trying to break into your home?   Beats me; however, I don't expect any system to be 100% accurate or effective.  I've been doing quite a bit of research and the system does seem smart enough to know when it's someone just walking by with their dog or a cat driving by or whatever.  I'm sure there will be instances where it might pick up a child ringing the doorbell but it's not like they just call the police as soon as they see someone at the door.  They'll talk to the person first, ask them why they are there, sound the siren if necessary, etc.  It looks pretty effective to me and short of actual live security, it's about as good as you're going to get.  I just want as much protection as I can afford for me and my family.  Really hope SS can implement something like this in the near future because it would be awesome to have it all under the SS umbrella.  They would be the only company offering this type of protection (live guards plus a monitored security system).

Hi all,

I can at least comment on the technical side of things. Right now, as many of you know, the only way that the Monitoring agents can get access to your footage is through the Visual Verification feature - which of course is opt-in for each camera, and disabled by default.

The way that works is that a recording of just that one alarm event is immediately sent to the Monitoring team. So let's say you have multiple cameras, our agent will be able to see a recording from each of them. But they're not able to browse through any other recordings, and also it's not a live view that they can control (so they can't just keep watching as long as they want).
Essentially our goal was to enable our Monitoring agents to determine if there's an emergency, and relay that info to emergency services as quickly as posible, while still protecting the user's privacy at every step of the way.

But based on the above, the system is currently not set up for live feed - which would definitely be an interesting direction to go into, for SimpliSafe.

Yea and how much does deep sintenal cost? A lot and you better have serious wifi to be able to connect to those cameras and to be honest simplisafe has video verification anyway so out of all 9 of my cameras they will see who it is and send the video to the cops and when they get it they will know it's not a false alarm and will already know who they are looking for and will haul butt to get there and someone screaming out of the camera is not going to stop someone from breaking into my home but the whole neighborhood is going hear that extra siren I have outside and know something is up. I'm good with the way it is with simplisafe.
