Integrate Cameras with Smart Home Hubs

One feature I’m really interested in is the ability to see the Doorbell input as well live footage from other SimpliSafe cameras on my Google Nest Hub, much like you could with Arlo, Wyze cameras or others mentioned here:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9137164?hl=en

I get that SimpliSafe has competed with Nest, but with Nest Secure gone now, it feels like SimpliSafe has a big opportunity here. No option in the market seems to provide a holistic security system with 24/7 pro monitoring, while also being able to stream input on my Nest Hub devices. That has me uncertain what to proceed with purchasing.

@thisdudeiknew Sharing video with third parties is a difficult prospect, especially with our commitment to keeping your data - especially video - locked down and private. At this time, this request is NOT IN DEVELOPMENT. But we'll keep you updated if that ever changes.

Such a disappointment

It doesn't make any sense to me that we have a security system that has some very basic integration with Alexa/Google, and doesn't even include the ability to show video from the cameras/doorbell.

Integration of a security system to home monitors is essential in today's world, and for those that do whole home automation a necessity.

We should have the ability to pull up the cameras, or have the doorbell show video when an event occurs on our Alexa/Google devices.

Thanks for the feedback, rcm81.

You're right, with Interactive Monitoring, we do also enable integration with both Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant. For both of these, the integration currently allows only arming your alarm system, as well as checking on the system's status.

But video is a very different thing. SimpliSafe uses a unique way of storing and keeping your video data secured, and right now it isn't set up for forwarding that video to other services.

of course, as usual, I will be forwarding your suggestion to our dev team.

@Johnny M and as this post raised the topic of smart speaker integration, I apologize for bringing out the dead horse to beat on him again. :-) (sorry,  rcm81, forget video integration). The ability to send a flag to Echo or Goolge device of an alarm event out from SS3 to the said smart speaker will not compromise security but will greatly enhance the value of my SS3 system. Why? When my system alarms, if SS3 sends such flag to my Alexa account it turns on my 9 IoT wifi light switches and plugs and lights up my house like a Christmas tree inside and out.

Talk about video cameras, my Simplicams and front door bell would get beautiful shots of the intruders!

This is not nuclear physics, Simplisafe. If $$ and revenue is the issue, then charge me $25 for a "Interconnectivy Hub" that I can put batteries in and collect dust. You send the flag, my lights go on and you make a few bucks for your hedge fund investors. Win/Win!

@davey_d if you don’t want to integrate than you should make your own hub. Only being able to view my cameras on my phone is a HUGE inconvenience.

I concur 100%. The fact that users cannot have a display screen on the ready see who is at the door or view their cameras is outdated and behind the times to say the least. Create your own if you don’t want to integrate but offer it.

not to mention, half the time my phone takes forever for the cam to open view or it downright errors. it's a real pain.

When will simply safe doorbell be compatible with Alex's devices and be able to see who is at the front door?

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion! Right now we're really focused on developing a closed system. We don't want to open up sharing video specifically with other companies, or at least not yet.

But it would certainly be an interesting callout for our Product team if we could get a lot of interest in this thread!

@davey_d as a customer, i would want my system To be controlled  by one home the home Automation app. And buyer don’t want to. Fill trapped in one eco system.  It would be better if these feature provided. I know many of my friends ditching simplisafe just because there is no good integration with one of these apps. Especially camera should have been Integrated with These apps aa they provide portal or dedicated screen such as google hub to control home automation

@davey_d I would absolutely be interested in this feature. Being able to tie SimpliSafe video streaming into Google Nest Hub would be huge upgrade/feature addition, and make system monitoring more user-friendly for the less tech-savvy.

Unfortunately I think I may have to switch my system up due to using google home for half my stuff and Simplisafe for the other half. I really wish they offered integration, such a shame.

@davey_d I would be very interested and happy if I could live stream my SimlpiSafe cameras on my Google Nest Hub. You don't offer anything but the app on my phone to stream. I am not always on my phone at home. I would like to be able to just ask Google.

@davey_d, I partially understand the closed system advantage, but we're talking about Google here, most companies integrate better in this area. Keeping aside camera feed for a bit, there is no arming control in the Google Home app or even the conditional rules that could work with other home automation devices. A simple example, 'turn off the lights when Simplisafe is set to Away', won't work because Google Home cannot communicate with Simplisafe!

Sounds like a BRILLIANT idea!  Open up Simplisafe to display devices that exist in the Google Home app.  Is Simplisafe going to participate in the Matter scheme?

I love my SimpliSafe system and the fact that it it is compatible with google home/assistant, however the biggest drawback is that I can't stream my SimpliSafe camera with the other Goggle Home Cameras I have. This would be an awesome update.

I'm pretty annoyed this isn't already a thing. Seems like the bare minimum for a smart camera. I get they are different systems but Simplisafe advertises that it works with Google. I would assume that would mean fully works not the current barely functional state it is in.

I hope they really do plan to look at this.

I just bought a Simplisafe outdoor video and security system.  One of the reasons I bought this was to display it on my Nest Hub Max.  I think this thread implies that it will NOT work.  That is unfortunate as it checked all the other boxes on my list.  Now I will need to reevaluate before I set it up....thx

@Mssecure unfortunately no, integration with smart displays is currently not one of our advertised features.

I'm going to be joining the list of customers looking to jump ship if Simplisafe doesn't correct this.  There is no excuse for this system not to be integrated with smart home capability in this day and age of technology.

"Smart home compatible

Use your system with Alexa, Google Assistant, August Locks, and Apple Watch."

Put an asterisk there and say barely any actual features available through smart home devices.

Integration with Nest Hub would be amazing. Could likely still require disarming through the simplisafe ecosystem only, but the capability to see a live feed of your doorbell or security cam on a Nest Hub would be so useful.

1 Message

@jhatche2 That's exactly what I need right now. Would love to have a constant feed from my cameras.

Definitely want the ability to see Simplisafe camera feed on Google hub. Especially when the door bell is pushed. It works really well with the google nest doorbell that I switched from.

Can you create a SimpliSafe Doorbell/Camera Skill for the Alexa - especially the Alexa Show?  I just replaced my Ring Video Doorbell Pro with your Video Doorbell Pro and odd things happen with the Alexa.

To start with, the doorbell is installed correctly and integrated with the SimpliSafe Web App.  I disabled the Ring skill and Enabled the SimpliSafe skill on the Alexa App.

If I tell the Alexa App to look for the device as a camera, it find it but Identifies it as a Ring device and wants to use the Ring app/skill to integrate (with any video coming from Ring.com) (by the way, that ricochet through Ring.com to get back to the Alexa was never a good selling point for that system and frequently prone to failure).

I contact your "online chat" user support, and they said "that was normal".  Then after I convinced them that they were telling me to use the Ring skill and have it pull the video from Ring.com, they recanted and sent me to phone support.

Phone support said that the Alexa Skill integration doesn't exist.

What is the time frame for enabling this skill?

Hi @JAGalbraith ,

So sorry for the confusion!

Right now, if you are subscribed to Interactive Monitoring, you can enable integration with Amazon's Alexa through the SimpliSafe account online. When enabled, you can arm your SimpliSafe system by voice, and add that arming action to a routine.

However, there is no available integration for our cameras. The only way to access and control your SimpliSafe cameras is through the SimpliSafe app.

Compatibility with smart displays, like the Echo Show, has been requested, and that request has been forwarded to our development team. But as of right now, the feature is NOT IN DEVELOPMENT.

@davey_d Simplisafe is behind the time with this

Really tired of hearing how Simplisafe is actively not developing seemingly anything.

seriously considering switching to Ring, or some system that can actually integrate with Alexa. Im not talking about "Skills". I mean like proper integration, like when my alarm turns off, turn on the light, open the blinds, etc.

all this is impossible with Simplisafe, but probably with everybody else.

Would love to see this video capability! Amazon owns Ring, and Ring is a competitor of Simplisafe. But let’s put our differences aside for the safety of mankind, people!
