Base Station announce Component or Sensor by name

I know the base station can chime when doors or opened.  In fact, in test mode it will announce which alarm is triggered.  But is there a way for the basement station to always announce which alarm is triggered (for example, have it say "front door", or "patio door").

The Simply Safe a system has great annunciation at the base but if you have a large home or multiple floors you have to rely on remote sirens which are terrible annunciators!

SimpliSafe missed an opportunity to include Annunciation through the keypads which apparently have already all the technology necessary to act as annunciators and chime with voice prompts on alarms!

SimpliSafe should investigate the possibility of using Amazon's echo dot devices as base station repeaters, or create some vehicle by which the actual base station audio output can be replicated at different areas in the house. This would turn the system from good to excellent.

Another option is to put push type chime and voice annunciations into the SS App.  This would at least allow the user to know what is going on in detail when they are out of hearing range of the base!

No complaints on the function of the alarm features but the interface to the user leaves a lot to be desired.

SimpliSafe did not follow the conventional industry wisdom with how keypads interface to the users and act as annunciators.  If I am downstairs and somebody opens the front door and I am not within earshot of the base, I have no clue what's going on. I may not even here the Annunciation of the chime feature. A terrible waste on otherwise excellent system layout.  SimpliSafe moved the benchmark up in low cost DIY alarm technology but terribly botched the at-site user experience.

I am a retired alarm industry executive and understand the trials and tribulations of alarm design and the compromises for cost, etc. But mostly here it is a design shortcoming as these features would not be expensive to incorporate.   Because the Annunciation and chime feature is a critical feature for me I'm actually considering returning my system for something else.

I need the Base annunciation at all levels of my home and at each area there is a keypad.

I have nothing to add other than I rarely see "annunciate" used and I genuinely appreciate your use of it here. :)

Currently there is no base station speaker "repeater" available. However, the Simplisafe siren

can mimic the door chimes and keypad arming/disarming beeps. Of course, the siren will also amplify the base station's 80 decibel siren by adding a supplementary shreking 120db siren to your system.

Other then that, I don't think I have a solution for you. I'm sorry

I have the siren stations, believe it or not, 5 of them!   The chime is a very important feature to me as it gives me knowledge in this large home if someone were to enter while the system is off.  However,  the siren chime feature is not hearing impaired friendly.   The most common type of hearing impairment is high frequency loss.  Many people start with that problem then it gets worse from there.  The tones SS used for the chime on the siren is in the tonal range of hearing impaired.   I can tell that a younger person or a perfect hearing person designed the tones and thought they are ok.  I can stand 2 rooms away from the chime and not hear it.  I bet most young folks could hear it across the street.   If you have any technical persuasiveness with SS, give us a high low tone and a large percentage of the older folks will at least hear the low one.

I read your bio.   I owned a large regional Central Station alarm company in Virginia since 1972.  Sold out in 2014.

I appreciate the chime when opening a door or window, but it would be very nice to know which window or door was opened, especially when we’re all sitting at the dinner table, and it’s clear none of us opened anything. Thanks!

I have a SS3 system with siren and door sensors. What would really be nice is if I could specify a unique beep/tone to each door sensor so that I know which door was opened.

Also, when I asked customer support, they said that the siren does not have a beep feature when a door sensor is activated. I don't know if this was a recent addition, but they need to be updated on the current features of they system.

I recently left ADT to go with Simply Safe to secure my property. I have 4 motion detectors to cover 3 separate levels of my house and 4 door sensors. My question is, will Simple Safe ever program the base station to tell you which field device was activated during an alarm event? That would be a huge help when in home mode to let you know where the breach in security took place. Expanding on what they have or making it possible for the base station to give a  breach location would be unbeatable. It would also be very valuable to the people in the house to know where the intruder is and how much time you have to secure your family or fight

@dutchowens57 right now, the SimpliSafe Base Station is not able to announce which sensor is triggered, by name.

During an alarm event, with the main siren blaring, you might not even hear anything else. So the best solution is to enable Smart Alerts, which can be sent through App Notification, SMS, or email. They can even be sent to as many contacts as you want, so any family members with phones or tablets can get the alert right away. Smart Alerts contain info about the type of alarm (burglary, fire, etc.), as well as which sensor triggered.

But the Base Station is actually at least capable of announcing the names. It already does so during Test Mode. It just hasn't yet been enabled outside of Test Mode.

That's why I moved your comment to this thread - it sounds like you're asking for a similar thing, and I wanted to add your voice here.

Alert Texts are a good idea for casual monitoring, but during an Alarm situation are iffy - Central Dispatch will call almost immediately and it's tough to multitask on a cellphone 10 seconds after waking from deep slumber.

Currently the hub just chimes when a sensor ed door is opened. It be an easy software update for hub to tell which door was opened. This feature is available in all the security systems except SimpliSafe.

The reason I need this feature is, when my kids open the door and go out, I want to know which door was opened. It can be main door, balcony door, backyard or their room window.

Can you please prioritize this feature? It shouldn’t be too hard to release given sensor names are already voiced by the base station when their battery are low.

Can you at least set expectations with your customer base?

Going to add my voice to this thread.  I just switched to SS from an old GE SimonXT system, which had the capability to announce the name of the sensor being triggered.  If they could do it 10+ years ago, certainly it can be done now.  If the SS base station can do it in test mode, it shouldn't be too hard to announce the names on a trigger.

Another voice added to this thread as I see some are years old and still no action taken.

The "voiced names" are in the system and announced when you name a sensor, so that can't be the issue...

I have a fairly larger footprint for a house and a number of sensors - so if I hear a chime for an entry sensor that I'm not expecting, it'll most likely result in a bit of panic of me trying to figure out which was tripped.

Very very hard to recommend a system that doesn't have this feature to anyone else...

We need a software update for the sensors to have voice sounds instead of beep so you know what sensor is open rather than fumble with the app

Please add this feature.

It adds a great deal of value and is common place in the competitive alarm monitor industry.

You can do it!

I too would like the base station to annouce by voice what event triggered.  I had that on my last system and really miss it.  a chime at each event is not helpful because you turn those off as they tell you nothing other than some event triggered.  I want to know if with the alarm off my front door opened or my garage etc.

Wow, this has been going on for over 5 years now and SS has not made it happen yet. I’m starting to think, if they could they would so probably they just don’t know how to. Unbelievable that it can announce the names in Test mode but doesn’t do it outside of Test mode.

I just ordered a system and switched from ADT. My 14-year old ADT system had this feature. This is obviously not a priority for SS, but it definitely is for me and my family. When an intruder enters my home, I want to immediately know where the breach occurred without having to check my phone for a secret message. I'll give SS a try, but I will quite possibly be returning the system before the trial period ends.

This thread goes back 5 years, among numerous other requests. It's disappointing that such a common feature has yet to be integrated with this alarm system. Is there some sort of IP around this feature and you don't want to pay royalties? I can't think of any other reason.

I switched from ADT 5+ years ago, and the entry announce feature is the only aspect that I miss from it.
