Upgrading older systems

Earlier this month--6/2021-notice was sent to customers to update their system. I have a ~5 year old system and none of the instructions apply. There is no Settings menu option, there is no gear icon, and there is no way to get through to support. Anyone know how to update an older system?

@ makmack you are a lucky customer, as are three of my friends who had SS2 systems. You can't upgrade your SS2 system (therefore no gear icon) but SS will replace your old SS2 system with a SS3 system of the same configuration (if you bought additonal sensors from the original system you have to replace those on your dime. Keep calling or send an email with a specific time and date for a call back.  I believe that's how it works but I am sure Johnny M or someone else on his team will confirm or correct me.

Oooo, thanks, Captain 11. If I don't hear otherwise, I'll try the email with call back times. Thanks again!

So Simplesafe updates its original old customers with what ? If you are expected to have to replace all of the original components that's like buying it as a new customer. I did not think the alarm system would be like buying tires, after so many miles they are worn out and you have to buy new ones.

@gcaughron  It's not like your tire example where the system is worn out.  It all still works, but it's more like a new cell phone- if you want all of the latest bells and whistles, you have to buy the new version.  My "old" version, like my phone, still works fine and I see no need to upgrade my SS2 system.  While some of the features might be nice, I see nothing to justify the expense (whatever it may be) of upgrading.

SS has been contacting people with SS2 and early SS3 systems about upgrading (replacing) the cellular modems with new part that has LTE/4G capability since the 2G networks are being phased out for all practical purposes.

The cellular modem upgrade certainly could apply to your SS2 system if it hasn't ready been done. And, you should know if it has because you have to physically remove the old modem and replace it with the new modem. This needs to be done for sure if you have or plan to have monitoring service.

I received the new modem but I can't get the bottom off the base to install it!  What kind of tool do I need, I've tried screwdrivers.

@ Narajolinda3 if this for a SS2 base, just turn the top of the unit, not the base. It twists off. There you will see the comm board.

I have the original base.  Nothing seems to twist off.

I have an SS2 system, but am considering the upgrade. Does anyone know if any of the entry sensors, panic buttons or siren from the old system is compatible with the Gen3? It would be much easier and less expensive to just replace the base station and keypads. TIA.

Nothing carries over except the cameras; if you have any of them.

Narajolinda3,

It's the whole cone that twists off. You can use this video as a guide:
