Insurance company offers a discount for water detection/leaks but not from Simplisafe

Has anybody tried to get USAA to agree to find a way to accept Simplisafe water detection devices? they need to connect to USAA to notify their system wen an alarm for water leak goes off.

@chipbdh Although my father was a WW2 vet I was advised I wouldn't qualify for USAA membership, so cant comment n them, however, from direct experience can tell you Liberty Mutual and State Farm does provide discounts using a SS system, especially the water sensors.

Probably not. Just out of curiosity, I'm like that, lol, I did some investigation.

Appears that USAA has exclusives with Roost Security and Resideo Security. At least one arriving around 2019ish.

Somehow they're able to alert the insurance for various reasons,  leak, burglar etc. I suppose. Too much reading today. How new they are on the Security scene, I'm not certain.

If successful, I could see them snagging more partnerships. Look over your shoulder Simplisafe. Or maybe in front of you. 😇🤔😂 I'm not interested myself, just curious.

Hi @chipbdh ,

I can't speak to the insurance company side, nor for other alarm system companies. But I can tell you that the way our Water Sensor works is that when it detects a leak, your system will set off a (non-siren) warning tone, followed by notifications to your phone via the SimpliSafe app. If you have Monitoring Service active, we'll also give you a phone call to let you know. However, our system won't send any info to emergency services, nor to any other third parties (like insurance companies).

The way it's worked for me when insuring my own home (with a different provider) is that I explained to our agent how the system works, and what sorts of emergencies we get alerts for. And that factored into their risk calculations.
