Bug - Basestation - Network Handling Loss Of WIFI Internet

  • Simplisafe will not alert an outage in the event of lost internet when the gateway is reachable.
  • Simplisafe will alert wifi restored in the event a loss of power occurs and the gateway is restored but no upstream route.

There seems to be no basic handling of trapping an outage beyond the gateway. This could increase liability where cellular is not available, the system will get stuck in a stale "good" state providing the gateway is alive but internet is not.

Environment

Base Station <> Layer 2 <> Layer 3 device <> Internet ( 0.0.0.0 )

Result:

  • Base Station </> - WIFI OUTAGE
  • Base Station <> AP </> - WIFI OUTAGE - Only layer 2 exists
  • Base Station <> AP <> SRX (default gw ) -  WIFI RESTORED - L2/L3 exists </> No Internet
  • Base Station <> AP <> SRX (default gw ) <0.0.0.0> Internet - No change in status from above )

Simplisafe is doing what was only ever going to result in issues, probing a default gateway to determine the status of connectivity outside of one.

Further this outage and notification seems directional one sided, not bidirectional, or from a good source. The only possibly way I get notifications from the system regarding this is because Cellular is connected. IE your problem end is the one telling Simplisafe everything is OK when its not.

Lastly this is how the handling works when cellular is available and would need some internal review with no cellular redundancy or in similar scenario where cellular exists but no route beyond the next hop.
