"Wireless Interference Detected" voice prompt from SS system.

For the last couple of weeks my SimpliSafe system has started alerting me via the voice system stating "wireless interference detected". I've had the system for a few months and I've never experienced this issue before. I contacted support via the technical support hotline and I was told to move my base station closer to my wifi router (AT&T Internet provider). The base station is already in the same room as the router (maybe 3-4 feet in distance between the two) so the tech support person said it should be near a window (it's about 2 feet from the window). When I asked if there is a way to assess what might be causing the interference I was told he would need to talk to a supervisor and put me on hold. After waiting nearly 10 minutes on hold I hung up. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's quite annoying and unnerving hearing a loud voice at 4AM saying "Wireless interference detected". We have not added any new wireless devices in our household and I had no problems in the first few months of having the system. Why would this start happening now? Any suggestions?

I started getting the "wireless Interference" message 8  days ago as indicated on the keypad. it was happening every time the system was disarmed.  I've been using SS for about 7 months and I haven't added any new sensors or moved anything from their original locations. After reading a few post on the SS forum there didn't seem to be much of a solution except to go through the system at each sensor point, or call SS and have them lower the sensitivity. I decided to go through the system at each sensor point and see what would happen. As I was doing this I noticed a small icon on the keypad that looked like a gear. I never really noticed it before, it was really small and who looks at the keypad after you disarm the system? I pressed the icon and it alerted me that there was an update for the keypad and the update would take about 12 minutes. I performed the update, the base station was spinning out all different colors and the keypad was indicating the percentage of upgrade performed. After the update was completed I re-armed the system, then disarmed the system and no more "wireless interference" message. I don't know if that's the permanent solution or a temporary fix but right now it seems to have eliminated the issue. If the problem occurs again I will update the post.

@tomdnc01, updates are not normally announced, which is something I and many others have been asking for a while. (CRC, area to post the who, why, when etc for update releases.)  As far as interference, can't explain why the update worked but glad that it did. If it occurs again, suggest you start with the online chat tool in the new customer support area. Currently open M-F 9-5 Eastern. Their service has been excellent.

I have just had it in uk as well. No change to wifi , sensors or placement of anything yet it announced and also appeared on keypad.

I moved base station 2 inches and got email saying its resolved

Any ideas why it was ok then not is it a bug

I'm beginning to think it's a bug (possibly from the update).  Seems to be the one correlating factor in the majority of complaints.  But, what do I know!

Glad to know I was not alone.

Stay on Simplisafe, through the chat on the support page. To this day I do not know if they somehow fixed my "Interference Detected" issues or they fixed themselves, but I have the 10,000 push and text messages to prove there is something going on somewhere, and it's on Simplisafes end IMO.

It took a few weeks and @ 4 or 5 long sessions with support, then the messages stopped one morning a few weeks ago and have not returned. I was getting those messages literally every few secons over and over.

It will eventually get resolved but I would stay on top of Simplisafe. Hopefully you don't beat your head to a pulp bashing it off the wall in the meantime.

@ mthorpnoe

Yes, the phone support blows. No doubt about it.

Have you tried the online support chat? I was able to get through in minutes every time with it. It is however a Wonky setup to get to it.  Go to    https://support.simplisafe.com/hc/en-us  and when it's available (after 9 AM EST) an icon will pop up at the lower right after a few seconds.  I also had good luck calling SS very first thing at 9AM EST. Good luck.

Anyone have a solution? Mine started this "Wireless Interference Detected" yesterday and is still going on today. Customer Service yesterday said it was my wireless internet going in and out which wasn't true. Chatting today, which is a terrible chat system, and they want to move it which has clearly been stated that doesn't work.

Any solutions?

Here is what I received. I've moved it and still having the issue. Moving the base station doesn't make any sense as the issue did not exist until yesterday and no new electronics were placed in the house or outside of it.

Hello again Shawn,

In regards to Wireless Interference, it's most likely due to something in the environment. Our Base Station communicates to different components using radio frequencies. There are common household devices in the market that operate in a similar fashion. The source of interference can often be difficult to pinpoint.

After carefully assessing different situations of Wireless Interference, we narrowed it down to the most common causes. These can come from wireless routers, kitchen appliances, smart TVs, radios, home charging stations, baby monitors, and driveway sensors. If any of these devices are present in your area, I recommend moving the Base Station at least 5 feet away. This in most scenarios tends to resolve the problem.

We recommend placing the base on a wooden, glass, or even a plastic surface. You will also want to make sure that it is placed at least 3 feet off the ground, and at least 2-3 feet away from any electrical appliances or devices. Usually, the easiest way to stop the Wireless Interference Detected message is by moving the Base Station. You can move the Base to a different location while keeping my earlier recommendation in mind. After moving the base station, please arm the system and disarm to see if the error cleared. You can also look for a "Wireless Interference Stopped' in the timeline of your online account.

Hopefully, this information helps! If you need additional assistance please do not hesitate to schedule a call back so we can resolve your concerns right away! To get started, please provide the best call back time and number to reach! Or if you prefer, you can always give us a call at 1-800-297-1605. We're open from 9 am to Midnight Eastern, 7 days a week.

Best,

@shawncdavis, I had this issue twice, but both were with my SS2 system, no issues with SS3, but hopefully this information will help.

I got interference message and base and sensors didn't move. Nothing added, similar to what  I believe you have.  After two calls, I finally got out our house's original floor plan in the sales brochure, copied it and then entered where the base, keypads etc were, sensors and then the electronics. Scanned and emailed to SS. Got a call back and we reviewed it together.  SS agent said he would call back. Day later it ended up with this: TMobile tower was moved and they sent me a Verzion board for the base.  Easy as pie to replace, done, and issue gone.

About 18 months later, same issue, called and the agent, on the phone, advised they addressed it "remotely" and to call back if issues. I had no issues after that, none, zip.

At this time I suggest you call and have your issue escalated.

I never had any issues either until recently.  I then moved by base station 2 inches and it stopped immediately.  No idea what made it change.

But then there was ValueAdded's situation where everything under the sun was done including throwing everything at the kitchen sink - and suddenly one day the messages stopped.

I think when SS added this feature to last year's fall update, they didn't think it through - otherwise no one would get such a message when they've been living with different local frequency signals for years and their alarm systems were working just fine.  How many local frequency signals share SS's signals in the average home?

SS needs to tell customers why they included this as a "feature", and inform across the board what users are supposed to do about it and if range signals are or are not compromising alarm system performance when this occurs (per Johnny M's post way above).

But then ... that person who walked into house with no trigger jamming it but the phone notifications and base station were screaming interference.... that in that situation was his only trigger...

Happy medium somewhere too high sensitivity too low....

Here is my experience.  I suddenly started getting several "wireless interference detected" announcements from the base station and an alert icon on the keypad.  I was getting periods where it was happening 4 to 5 times within an hour.  It would then stop and do another 4 to five several hours later.

I had upgraded to SS3 about 8 weeks ago and this "wireless interference detected" just started last week.

Relocating base station has no effect.

I unplugged my base station, removed factory rechargeable batteries (1.2V/min. 1000mAh Nickel-Metal Hydride).  I replaced with fully charged Panasonic 1.2v min. 1900mAh rechargeable Eneloop batteries.

I have not had the "wireless interference detected" message since I've done the battery swap and it has been over a week now.

^ unfortunately, rebooting the base station or changing batteries does not work for everyone - SS needs to address the issue.

I washed my car key fob on accident.  My car alarm and this message kept going off. Luckily, my car alarm was the clue or I'd be just as confused as everyone else here.
Every time I use my remote start or if my keys are in the room with me when I activate or deactivate the alarm then I get the Wireless Interference Detected Message. 100% my remote start fob.

Wireless Interference

Control panel showed two separate wireless interference incidents much earlier today.  Both showed resolved in the control panel however they never truly resolved in the base station / keypad.

I did run through the reboot as suggested above.  Unplug, remove the little Phillips head screw, slight turn on the very bottom of the base to reveal the batteries, remove batteries, count to 30...

For now anyway, the wireless interference notifications have stopped.
This feels like it may be a bug in the firmware, but if you are getting this notification and nothing has changed recently in your environment, I would suggest you attempt the reboot before spending time on the phone with support.

Good luck!
