Keypad failing to disarm

I have two keypads, both less than a year old (one is just a few months old). I use one keypad daily and the other just a time or two per month. The one I use most has an issue, described below, that has happened six to eight times, only in the last couple of months. The lesser used one just did it today.

When I enter the home, the alarm is active and I go to the keypad to disarm the system. I press each digit and the keypad chirps for each button press. Then I realize that the alarm is still active and there are only 3 "stars" on the display.

At that point, time is running out and I have to quickly press OFF and the same digits. Then the system is disarmed.

I have caught the display showing too few stars partway through, but I'm not certain as to which digit didn't register.

This is a real pain. It seems like a software/firmware or communication issue that is fairly recent. Note that both keypads are within 20 feet of the base station.

Having the same problem every once in a while. Walk in the home and pushed the pin and still keeps chirping like I never did anything. I would do what I did and reboot the base station by unplugging it and pull battery out wait a few minutes then reinstall all back. Then make sure you have new batteries in keypads and if so just take batteries out and wait a few then put back in and let it all reconnect and see if that will solve anything.

Thanks for the feedback. I would like hear from SimpliSafe first before I go through the aggravation of all that. I'll give them a while and if they don't respond I'll try that.

I had the previous experience that a software update caused communication issues and I called three times because sensors were randomly failing. I was told to remove the batteries from three water sensors to get them back online (ignoring the 4 or 5 sensors that failed in the previous days). A few days later, they admitted to the bad software.

I appreciate the advice.

It happened again tonight and I was paying close attention. At least this time, it was the first digit that failed to "take" despite the confirmation "chirp".

Just try rebooting it all and see if that helps. May be the buttons on the keypad are going bad as well but doubt it

Hey @jone0c579 thank you so much for sharing this! I want to make sure I am understanding the failing on the Keypad.

For example if your pin is 3456 the Keypad is only letting you enter in 345, but you do hear the beep for the 4th press?

It's happening on 1 of your two keypads as well? If that is the case if a power cycle doesn't fix it I would contact support for a warranty exchange for that unit. The Keypad no longer has firmware updates so there is nothing that can be pushed to it.

Hi,

I have additional information and clarification:

The issue only happens when the system is armed to Away and I come into the home while it is still armed (the warning alerts are sounding). Never when I disarm from Home (therefore, it isn't the keys themselves).

Of the numerous times that this has happened, I have been paying close attention lately. I know for sure that it was the first digit pressed (and the keyboard chirped) that didn't "take", at least once. I do know that in all cases that I looked at the display, there were only three "stars" displayed. There are always 4 "chirps".

I have two keypads, one is used once or more daily. The other is rarely used. It has happened close to 10 times on the commonly used keypad, once on the the rarely used one.

It seems to me that only the firmware/software would know the difference between the first button press and the additional presses (as in it traps the first press and has a separate routine to receive the remaining presses and validate them). I will continue to pay close attention to see if it is always the first press.

Thanks for reaching out!

Thank you for the update Jon and the thorough investigation. Even with it potentially (and based on your investigation reasonably) being software there isn't a way to patch the Keypad or do any sort of software resets on the Keypad at this time. I would still advise getting it swapped out at your earliest convenience to ensure it doesn't completely fail when you need it most.
