Issues with Setup

This entire system and its software architecture is a joke.  I too paid over $500 for the system, several months ago and because we are re-building after the Malibu fire 3.5 yrs ago, am just installing it.

First off, I hate these two tier security verification nonsense.  If I enter my user and password, that should be enough, when I try to remove the two tier security, it says I cannot do that without adding another phone or email address - WTF RIDICULOUS!!!!  Having a two tier system means absolutely nothing.  If a criminal is in my house with a gun to my head and they know the dynamics of the system, they will simply force me, or anyone else to give up the second tier info and the 4 digit panic code isn’t going to accomplish anything, by the time the police arrive, we’d all be dead.

Second, WTF is this nonsense that you set up the outdoor cameras through the remote control and the indoor cameras you have to log into the APP in order to install?!?!?!  Everything should have the exact same installation protocols and methodology!

Third, if i had known the cameras had to be connected to wifi, instead of their own secure RF signal, I NEVER WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS TURKEY!!!!!  ALL ANYONE WOULD HAVE TO DO IS TURN THE POWER OFF, KILLING THE ROUTER AND YOU ARE DONE!  NO COVERAGE!  A SECURE RF SIGNAL WOULD HAVE BEEN A WAY BETTER WAY TO GO.  NOT TO MENTION MY OUTDOOR CAMERAS ARE ON ONE SIDE OF THE HOUSE AND THE INDOOR ROUTER IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HOUSE.  WHEN I MOVE THE OUTDOOR CAMERA EVEN HALF THE DISTANCE I NEED TO GO, IT DROPS THE SIGNAL.  NOW I WILL HAVE TO INSTALL ROUTER EXTENDERS THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE IN ORDER TOMAKE THIS TURKEY WORK.

THAT’S ALL I HAVE FOR NOW AND I AM NOT EVEN DONE INSTALLING 4 APPENDAGES OF THIS SYSTEM.  IF I COULD RETURN IT I WOULD.

I DON’T KNOW IF THE RING SYSTEM IS ANY BETTER, BUT WILL CERTAINLY BE LOOKING INTO IT AND PERHAPS RE-SELL THIS TURKEY ON THE OPEN MARKET!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you've had so many issues with getting started. I would be happy to answer some of the questions you pose here.

As a security company, we have to treat even cyber-security with the highest priority. Multi-factor authentication is a necessity in today's environment, so yes, we do require it for all users. The scenario we're guarding against is if your username or password is somehow exposed - let's say you were the victim of hacking or a phishing attempt. Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security so that hackers aren't able to also log into your account and disarm your system without you even knowing.

All of our cameras connect to the service through WiFi. This connection is necessary because transmitting video rapidly requires a fast and stable connection. This cannot be achieved via the backup cell connection in the Base Station - let alone the local RF used by the sensors.

As for the setup process - the Indoor Camera and the Video Doorbell Pro represent an older video platform, where the cameras don't actually connect to the Base Station at all, but rather to the service directly through WiFi. The advantage is that they're able to work independently, as standalone units. But when it comes to setting up, the only way to tell the camera what WiFi network to connect through is by having it scan that QR code that contains that info.

The Outdoor Camera connects the Base Station directly, so that link can be used for the setup process. The Outdoor Camera is the first in a new camera platform, and future cameras will have a similar setup process.

I do understand that you've been encountering quite a few frustrations with setting up. So I've taken the liberty of requesting a call from a senior specialist, who can take care of your remaining concerns. Please keep an ear out for that call!
