Firmware update failure

Just got our system.  Base station connected easily to WiFi and sensors.  Keypad and app both indicate a firmware update is available, but update timed out repeatedly.  Any suggestions appreciated!

Firmware update fixed - needed to unplug base station, remove all 4 batteries, wait 3 minutes, then reassemble.

Dear SimpliSafe Developers: FIX THIS JANKY SYSTEM!!! I constantly have to hard reboot like this when I want to make updates and also if I lose WiFi connection, it won’t reconnect to the exact same WiFi network unless I hard reboot. I’m so close to ditching SimpliSafe for another alarm provider.

I followed the procedure to update the firmware.  It spun for 8 hours then killed the base station.  It's a brick.  Tried pulling the batteries to no avail.  That was the day before we went on vacation.  We are not happy.
