Electricity smart meter interference?

Being asked if I want a new smart meter installed , anyone have one and does it cause wireless interference?

The advantage is that you don't have to provide access to your meter for monthly reading.  The downsides are 1) being high tech, they can be hacked, 2) being high tech, there is many more ways for it to "break", and 3) it is more difficult for you to verify what is going on instantaneously or over the month.

I didn't have a choice.  For a few years they asked me, I said no.  Then they said they would have to charge me extra each month to keep the "dumb" meter so I gave in.  I have not noticed any interference, but then the meter is outside of the house and all the wireless devices are away from it.

Thank you.
My current meter is inside house, actually right below some devices!  Not sure I want a smart meter myself but for the cost saving on tariff I might !

Your meter is inside the house?  How do they read it?

He's in the UK.  Pretty common there for meters to be inside, I think.  It rains a lot. ;^)  (Pretty common in the US too for closely-packed or multi-unit housing.) That's why they want to install "smart" meters so they don't have to go inside to read them anymore.

dandyDons, I have had a smart meter for years and it causes no issues with my wifi or anything else that I can tell.

My local smart meters (US) are using the 900 mhz band which is very far away from what SS uses.  900 isn't used much anymore by anything so you should be find if thats the case.  Your elec company should be able to tell you which band they use.  I've had one for a few years and have had no issues at all.

They are actually quite handy.  I can look at my usage in real time so if I want to see how much a light bulb uses for example, I can turn on only that and watch the meter go.
