No cellular Backup

I read in the latest email that the cellular backup connection will be removed on the paid self motoring app service plan?

So if the bad guy cuts my internet connection my SS system is now worthless for protection?

WOW!

Hi @chaz,

Yes, the Base Station's cellular backup will only kick in if you are subscribed to either our Fast Protect™ or Standard Monitoring plans. If you downgrade to the Self Monitoring with Camera Recordings or free Basic App Control plans, the cellular backup will no longer be available.

But our sensors and the Base Station communicate through their own Radio Frequency signal. So even if the internet is down, if your system is armed and a sensor is tripped an alarm will still sound.

@chaz As I, and others replied in the other thread, you don't have monitoring, so why do you care? Unless I am missing something, the backup cell connection is not being used, therefore, to you worthless. Why should SS pay for keeping a line active that isn't being used?

I was on that plan strictly for the cellular backup.  I don't have any cameras.  So it was a no brainer, why pay them $10 for absolutely nothing?

Oh well, after 7 years of monthly fees, now I don't have one!

I was disappointed to find that too.  I'm 800 miles away from my alarm system and wanted an affordable option.  Now I'm looking into providing "wifi" through a hotspot to see if I can still keep the self-monitoring plan.  No point in paying for the other more expensive plans when I still wouldn't have wifi for cameras.... but with an affordable hotspot.... I might have both?

I bought the system because of the cell backup.. I was never notified of this change until I called to report an issue - that the system was not working properly; the alarm was trigged 5-10 minutes after entering the house in AWAy mode.

I am really surprised if this is legal…
