National Safety Month: Summer Upgrade Sweepstakes

My SS3 system does it all, from protecting the homestead against intruders to monitoring for smoke, CO, temperature, and water threats, all while providing a nice credit on our homeowner's insurance.

I currently have gen I Simplysafe system. I love it. The ease of install and support is wonderful.

However, I wanted to add some outdoor cameras to my already quite extensive system, 22 entry sensors, 4 interior cameras, 4 motion sensors, a glass break and water sensor. Imagine my disappointment when I found out the system is not backwards compatible when adding exterior lights; which zi would have bought when I purchased my system initially but none were available. I even use an entry sensor on my RV parked in the backyard. The range is amazing!

I doubt this is a comment Simplysafe wants to hear especially for entering a contest to win a contest.

I guess I will bite the bullet and upgrade my system hoping to get the 60% advertised pricing being offered currently.

@hybyte​ not at all! We appreciate the feedback.

We still support the SimpliSafe Original system, and we would be happy to provide service for as long as you want to keep it. However, it's built on a platform that was designed more than 15 years ago, and as such isn't capable of supporting all of the new innovations we've been coming out with - like the Wireless Outdoor Camera and the Smart Alarm Indoor Camera. But you're right, our Support team can put together complete upgrade package with a massive discount for you!

We are very pleased with our SS system.  The flexibility of the system and ease of use puts us at ease.  We've added exterior cameras and like the fact that we can see who is at our door.  Recently this presented an added benefit in that I saw a neighbor who does not use a cell phone at our door.  I left a call to see what I could help him with.  

And, regarding porch pirates, we had a package arrive when we were out of town.  I contacted a neighbor to remove the temptation.

Our Golden Retriever has learned that the ding on our phones or iPads when the outdoor camera detects motion means it's time for him to start barking.  He sounds fierce and I'm sure any person with bad intentions would change their mind about trying to enter.

@randrock​ Our 2 dogs have learned the chime for the back door means iIve opened to go outside and they make A MAD DASH TO GET THERE TO GO OUTSIDE WITH ME. Pavlov didn't know how great he really was.

We decided to get SimpliSafe for our home when they cut a main street through our quiet neighborhood making it easier for outsiders to get away quickly if they were to break in. So far, it's still been very quiet which is good. I love to use my system for travel. I have a code for my pet sitter who I can see coming and going which gives me peace of mind. The only problem I'm having is setting it in Away mode due to cats walking around. I put it in Home mode and close the door quickly, but sometimes that has backfired b/c another sensor was not quite right and the alarm would go off. Not sure how to work around this. I love the cameras and the wonderful support I get from Simplisafe.

@Julesle​ If you find that your cats are setting off your Motion Sensor and triggering false alarms, we recommend placing the sensor 6-10 feet off the ground with the test button on top. That way, your cats shouldn't be able to climb near the sensor and set it off.

Moving the sensors and or adjusting the sensitivity would be my first two choices.  If that still doesn't work, then rather than setting home, you could set the motion sensors to be a silent notification when away.  That way if it is infrequent (depending on your plan), you could get a notification and check in with your cameras.  If you still want motion detection the newer indoor cameras have both a sensitivity and an option to (try to), use the camera to verify if it is a person, but the cameras are a lot more expensive than the motion sensors.

The older motion sensors (smaller IR dome), have a switch on the back for sensitivity, low, medium, or high.

The newer Gen 2 sensors (larger IR dome), have a pet mode option in the app.

As far as setting home mode and hurrying out, you could increase the time out.

We have been with Simplisafe for many years.  The rising costs of another system caused the need for change and we are so glad we did.  We are older folk and Simplisafe is just that.  Simple and Safe!

Received my new system a couple of weeks ago, and doing self-install.  Unfortunately, was called away for several days before completing install.  Chatting with SimpliSafe to extend Practice Mode was realized.  Easy and painless chat to request.  I am a Q&A kind of person, and every question was promptly answered, although I know I can sometimes be excessive, but SimpliSafe entertained my calls and chats without hesitation.  I am excited that I will be able to fully implemented and operationally now and have the peace of mind to be home or away with my new SimpliSafe Security system! I would enjoy winning this Summer Upgrade pack for even more security options! But will still consider add-ons in the future! Be Safe, everyone, SimpiSafe!

configured the majority of my system thru the day, effortlessly.  Now, I wonder if there is a PRINT option that I can download my device names with serial numbers to put in my safekeeping place for future reference, rather than having to create a spreadsheet or text document on my own?  Anyone have a suggestion/solution for this one?

@asm27804​ I'm happy to hear that your system is setup and Practice Mode was extended! Unfortunately there is not a setting in the SimpliSafe app that allows you to download all device names and their corresponding serial numbers. I have seen other users keep track of this information in their own spreadsheet, though.

@asm27804@emily_s Emily is correct, as I am one of the customers that use an excel spreadsheet. Extremly helpful but the new SS3 makes getting serial numbers loaded extremely tedious.

Emily, it has been over ten (10) years since I requested the ability to export and download this information. Would take a half decent intern one day or less to do, please ask your dev team to get this done. Thanks!

Thanks captain11....I thought it should be just as easy to create and post editable doc/spreadsheet on the secure online account, much like the Certificate of Coverage for insurance company!  At least I saved the barcodes off my boxes and labeled the location installed, but....the S/N showed up in the mobile app until I refreshed the app after naming the sensor with the keypad.  I would think SS would have those serial numbers for warranty purposes?

We just received our upgrade to Gen3 system today. We’ve had the original system for many years and looking forward to upgrading and adding cameras. Can’t wait to set up our new system. Setting up the original was so easy.

About a month ago, I was at work one afternoon when I receive a motion notification from my SimpliSafe app. I thought surely someone was breaking into my home, but when I opened the camera it was something much worse. A huge hole had opened in my ceiling and water was pouring out from the unit above. I immediately drove home to address the problem. In the time alone that it took me to get there, most of my living room ceiling had come down and inches of water were on my floor. Sadly the damage was pretty severe and I am still not able to return home, as it affected most of the rooms in my home, but I’ve told people through this entire process that SimpliSafe should have an ad about catching emergencies other that crime, because while my situation is still pretty terrible (and expensive!), it would have been a whole lot worse had I not seen the camera. My upstairs neighbor didn’t get home until 8 pm that night and I had plans to meet friends for dinner right after work. I can’t imagine what I would have come home to then. I’ll be sure to replace my system (which took quite the shower during the incident) once I get back in. Grateful for your products.

I am a new customer to SimpliSafe.  I recently purchased and installed a Gen3 system.   We have 32 devices connected and 5 cameras.  The set-up went very well.  I had a few challenges with the camera's and one temperature sensor; however, the online chat support was excellent and helping me solve the issues quickly.  We chose this system because it can do it all.  Looking forward to when the Smart Locks get back in stock so I can add them to our system.
