How do you use smart tech to keep your pets cool?

There are two things you ought to know about me. First, I’m a proud dog dad. And second (though you probably already guessed), I’m an unabashed nerd. So as summer well and truly begins, and the New England swelter starts to roll in, I turn to smart tech to keep my puppy nice and comfy. I find that my favorite solutions are those that use the gadgets that I already own - like, say, my SimpliSafe system - in clever ways. Here are just some of them.

Let the Breeze in While Staying Secure

You may already know that you can arm your system with the Entry Sensors still open. This is designed on purpose, so you can leave your windows and doors open on hot nights. In my downstairs, I pair my Entry Sensors with Motion Sensors in every room, so even if I have to step out for a bit and leave the pup behind, he can still enjoy the breeze - and be protected too! Of course, I already took the time to puppy-proof my Motion Sensors, so only intruders will get caught and trigger an alarm.

Staying Alert for Hazards

One thing that we have on our wishlist is a mini-split system for smart temperature control, hooked up to a smart thermostat. That’s a little out of my budget right now, so I make do with a portable air conditioner that I mostly keep on only for the real scorcher days. That’s where the Temperature Sensor comes in handy - so if I’m away during the day, I’ll know if the aircon goes down. And even when I don’t have the aircon on, I can check the temperature throughout the day.
As a bonus, the Base Station sends a notification for power outages immediately. So it can be used to monitor that appliances are still running too!

A Sensor for Even Small Spills

Of course, one of the most important bits of advice for any pet owner is to keep them hydrated! I have a handy automatic water dispenser plugged directly to a water tap. But more than once already, we’ve had a leak - a danger to my hardwood floors! It’s a good thing that I had a spare Water Sensor, so I can be alerted if a leak happens in the future.

So Much More to Learn

It’s only been a year since we adopted our fur baby, so I still feel like I have a lot to learn. I especially love learning from the experience of other pet owners about what works for them. So I would love to hear what other tricks you all have come up with for keeping your pets cool in the summer!
