Visual verification
Hi,
I recently purchased a Simplisafe system and am thinking about the pro monitoring plan.
From the setup, I understand that without visual verification only my assigned contacts will be contacted and police will not be despatched. I currently don't have a camera setup, mainly due to the fact that its wired. Setting up the camera in a decent area within the house is difficult due to the wire.
The only option I can think to use the camera is to place it within the house with a battery pack for power. The only place that I can think of is the kitchen. If I place the camera within the kitchen but an intruder comes through the front door and upstairs, it is unlikely they will be captured on camera. If this happens, do the monitoring centre assume that no burglary has taken place and don't send the police? What if they call my assigned contacts, and they don't know where I am? Do the monitoring centre assume that as they have seen no activity on the camera that all is fine?
I would rather not use the cam but get a police response if possible.
I am based in the UK if that matters.
Thanks.

You might want to call your Simplisafe UK support number and inquire about the regulations, as I believe they use a guard service and may have different requirements (also call your local city's police dept).
There are a couple people on the forums who are from the UK, but not sure when they'd be able to post and answer your questions, so best bet is to call Simplisafe.

I am in UK. Without that a guard will be sent at cost to you unless you opt out of guard dispatch.

If I do use the camera and there is a burglary but the camera doesn't 'see' this, what happens? Scenario: intruders come in through the kitchen, the alarm goes off, they keep hold of me in the kitchen and steal the money from there but go nowhere else in the house. Yet my camera is in the hall & it looks like no burglary has taken place.
From what I believe, monitoring would ring me as primary contact. I would not be able to answer. Second contact would be partner. They aren't in the house but tell monitoring they don't know where I am. Primary contact number 3 does not answer phone.
What happens then? Nothing? Guard dispatch? Police dispatch?

If they do not get a valid safe word from the first or second call, they dispatch police (unless the municipality won't respond to unverified alarms). In which case they may dispatch a guard service IF you sign up for that.

Btw, one can "forget" the safeword while on the phone to Monitoring (in which, dispatch will be sent), or say any word that is NOT the correct safeword, and dispatch will be sent. That said, you really need to keep trying to call SS for the correct answers, regarding the visual verification and guard service information in your area - that's information you really need anyway. Try calling early in the mornings when they first open (have no idea about the UK, but in the US it's 9 am, ET). If the UK phone system has an option to press a number for sales, press it! They may answer sooner.

I have several panic buttons around the house. I just don't know what the official line is with visual verification but as you mention probably best to call to get an official answer.
Thanks,
