Trick or Treat, Simplisafe!?

Halloween upon us tonight, with little boys and gouls out trick or treating in millions of homes throughout the land....and Simplicams, Doorbell Pros and Outdoor Cams recording and recording and recording and....well, you get the idea.  I turned off all of my cameras after getting a multitude of "no video" messages in my timeline, guessing that the Simplisafe servers were getting slammed at the peak of trick or treating.  Bandwidth is bandwidth, storage is storage and it appears children everywhere overwhelmed SS's systems. Yeah, a guess, but it did bring up memories of customers asking for the ablility to have their cameras not to record within certain hours or days, or when the system was off.

This capability has been asked a multitude of times; I am sure the Simplisafe support staff scheduled tonight may have very well agreed.  So Simplisafe, what was going on tonight with your systems?

Sounds like a great feature to put in, quick, or at least before next halloween!

Hi Captain,

Unfortunately yes, we did see some delays in camera performance last night - perhaps because it was the first big Halloween for the Outdoor Cameras! But our engineers were monitoring and resolved the issue last night. If you were online last night while the issue was ongoing, you might have seen the Alert Banner at the top of our Help Center and Community. Of course, alarms and Monitoring were not affected.

And as for that popular request - stay tuned. We have something in the works that is coming soon.

Maybe that is a feature in the 1.9 firmware (or possibly 1.10) that is being rolled out...

Yes, same experience here, no video for doorbell or driveway cam... 

It would be nice to be able to disable all cameras for a period of time with one click, while maintaining the previous settings...

Not all of us check the forums daily - any chance we can get a SS Support Twitter account? Or a status page we can use for RSS feeds, or email alerts, etc?

@worthing​ when there are widespread issues like the one that happened on 10/31, we do coordinate messaging. Our Social team often does also tweet the same messaging that we have on the Help Center/Community banner. But they may take down the tweet when the issue has passed, to avoid confusion.
