Suggestion: Add a ringtone to the doorbell notification.

I switched to this company after having a Ring doorbell for a few years.  I was thinking this company's doorbell would be an upgrade.  So far, I am not so convinced.  It would be helpful to have the ability to add a ringtone to the doorbell app so that we are notified when someone approaches our door.  This is a feature I loved about the Ring doorbell that I assumed was standard for all video doorbells.  At this point, I feel like I have to constantly open the app and review the camera activity to see if anyone has approached my door.  Many delivery guys simply drop off packages without ringing the doorbell.  This is annoying, but wouldn't be major issue if the doorbell would send a notification that we can hear vs having to log on to see.

Hi @ddandy4860,

Thanks for reaching out to us! The Video Doorbell Pro does have the ability to audibly alert you through Push Notifications both when the doorbell button is pushed as well as when motion is detected. To set up Push Notifications through the SimpliSafe app you can follow these instructions:

  • With the SimpliSafe app open, tap the  ‚ò∞ Menu icon on the top left.
  • Select the Settings option.
  • Tap on Camera Settings.
  • Select the Camera you want to change settings for.
  • Either scroll down and to Doorbell Notification to toggle that on/off or select Motion Detection and continue on with the following steps.
  • Make sure that both Motion Events and Motion Notification are turned on and click Save if necessary.

*Please note that Push Notifications will not come through while the SimpliSafe app is open on your screen.

If you are still unable to receive Push Notifications, please reach out to our Support Team to see if they can assist you further.

I believe the September 28th, 2020 answer from Team S to @ddandy4860 does not address the concern for Android customers. The Doorbell Notification discussed in that answer above lumps the notification of a doorbell event in with all of the other notifications, since Android only has one sound for , like emails, texts, UPS schedules, and all other app notifications. If one were to treat all with the same urgency as a doorbell or a camera detecting motion, one would spend far too much time chasing unimportant notifications. The Ring doorbell has an in-app notification that sounds like a doorbell and cannot be mistaken for any other notification. This is the kind of notification that would be useful and I respectfully ask that the Simplisafe app be improved to include a doorbell-like notification sound, or any sound that would differentiate it from an email or text arriving.

I have followed these steps and still do not get a sound notification that there is someone by my front door. I have an Apple phone. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no particular benefit to having an exterior camera integrated with a perimeter security system.  If you like the Ring functionality better, use it.

The reason I LOVED my Ring Doorbell was because it had a fabulous chime option. There is NONE on the SimpliSafe doorbell. I hate it! Can't make it louder or softer! We have a 3 story home and you can't hear it! Ring has a plugin CHIME. Really disappointed!

I just converted from FrontPoint and am finding some notable and easy-to-remedy shortcomings of the Simplisafe system.

In viewing the timeline through the app, there is no visibility to sensor events.  We used this feature often in the FrontPoint system to ensure that the house has been safe while we have been gone while unarmed, e.g., short walks.

There is no view of individual sensors in the app, as there is with FrontPoint.  It appears to only be accessible via the web interface. This is especially important if we're ready to arm and want to see if there are issues or we simply wish to see whether the dog is locked inside.

Either of these are minor code changes in your app.

Less easy to fix:  Your support staff is marginal at best. Likely too many newbies.  When installing my system, there was an issue that the first staff member diagnosed as a DOA base unit.  Then the second and third members gave objectively bad advice and made mistakes at their end as they "helped" with setup.  Finally, I got somebody with experience who fixed the errors and helped complete the task quickly.  As perspective, I've set up Simplisafe before, for my daughter, with no trouble at all and no need to call support at all.  Your staff needs far better training.

On the flip side, the door chime, the separate, portable keypad and base station sound quality are pleasant surprises.

Hi @rwarp,

If you'd like to view all activity from your sensors in the timeline, you can enable Secret Alerts for certain sensors. Secret Alerts can be set up in the Device Settings and anytime a sensor is triggered, will not trigger an alarm, but instead will post the event to the timeline and send you a notification if you have those set up. Please note that if you enable Secret Alerts for an Entry sensor in Off mode, you will no longer receive the door chimes for that sensor.

Regarding your second point, we have been hiring more representatives in an effort to reduce hold times as well as get ready for the holiday season. We constantly have our representatives go through trainings to ensure our customers receive the best support that we can. That being said, we'll make sure review the most recent calls on your account.

Hi @dnamin1,

Are you able to receive the Push Notifications from the Video Doorbell Pro for both motion detection as well as the doorbell button being pushed? If so, are the notifications just silent? It may be that the ringer switch on your iPhone may be set to vibrate. Toggling that switch back on should allow for audible notifications from the SimpliSafe app.
