Simplicam Shutter Sound

Does the Simplicam make a sound when it starts recording?

My pet camera makes a shutter-like sound when it starts recording and it freaks my dog out.

Hi @guy789,

The SimpliCam has a stainless steel privacy shutter that physically covers the lens when it isn't recording. When the SimpliCam detects motion, the shutter will open to reveal the camera's lens so it can record. That sound you hear is the physical metal of the privacy shutter snapping back.

By default, the privacy shutter is set to closed, but you can change your pet camera's settings to keep it open. If you do that, the shutter will not cover the SimpliCam's lens, so when it detects motion and begins to record, there will be no sound.

You can change the settings of the privacy shutter in the SimpliSafe mobile app by navigating to Camera Settings > [your camera] > Privacy Shutter and then set the shutter to be Open in Home Mode and Open in Away Mode.
