Simplicam motion detection through a window - any solutions?

I have my simplicam set up in a great position through my front window - it catches people in my driveway, and approaching my porch. I disabled the IR light so that there is minimal glare at night, and my porch and driveway remain illuminated by motion lights at night so the dark is not an issue.

The problem is, I can't get the motion sensor to trigger at all through the window, even on the highest sensitivity. Is there any workaround? Can I place a motion sensor outside and use it to JUST trigger the camera? Is there a buffer that maybe stores footage for a minute or so from before an alarm is triggered so I might be able to get some use out of this if it wont trigger on motion through a window?  The status light remaining illuminated is also intimidating (unless a crook identifies the camera and knows that the light being on solid means it's not actually recording anything). Maybe it would catch them on the way out, I guess?
I'm not interested in having this thing pointing inside the house - even with the privacy shield I'm just not comfortable with it. Having it closed in "home" mode sort of defeats the purpose anyway unless an alarm is triggered.

I really want to find a way to make this work - it's so close to perfect how I have it set up. Curious if anyone else has been successful in using their Simplicam through a window.
