@toastie a family member painted 2 simplicams with no issues. Critical was not getting paint on the lens or sensor. Carefully used 3m painters tape to cover the lens and sensor bubble and then used a fine paint brush to touch up around them. Not perfectly covered but didn't get paint where it shouldn't be. BTW, have to save the obvious, voids your warranty.

Any time you change a product from the condition you received it in, you void the warranty. Painting it the proper way is at best a below % with the general population. You may be in that small % but you paint it, its yours to keep. Possibly the SS Social team will chime in and tell me I am wrong.
The technical warranty would not be void by painting it unless the painting is what caused the camera to malfunction. But, certainly it could impact your allowance to outright return it for refund if still within the return window.
