Outdoor Cameras

I tried to post this but I don’t think it posted. My outdoor cameras drop connection. SimplySafe keeps saying my wifi isn’t strong enough. I have brought the cameras into my house. Completely remove them from the app and keypad. Reinstall the setup on all 4 cameras, they will show they are working but will not show the video. When checking the connection it will say it has no connection.

The cameras are within 4 feet of the router and they will show they are offline or as stated above they don’t show any video they will pick up movement but no notifications then they show up on the app but when doing a connection test shows offline. I hope I made this clear enough to understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @KeithB ,

As dlpsr says, there are a variety of possible factors to consider. If the Connection Check tool in the SimpliSafe app is reading a "weak" signal even when the cameras are within extremely close range to your access point, then there's something else going on - for example, compatibility with your current WiFi setup.

We suggest setting up a secondary WiFi network with the following settings for best compatibility, if you're able:

  • Locked to 2.4GHz only
  • WPA2 or WPA3 Mixed Mode

I figured out what the problem was. I have a Deco X60 mesh system. I had disabled the isp router and used one of the mesh units as the main router. I was having so many problems with the cameras that I decided to put the isp router back in service, I then hooked up the mesh system to the isp router and named the mesh system the same as the isp router and bingo! The cameras have been working for several days now with no issues. I’m not into or understand all the technical stuff but I figured I would try that. Had nothing to loose and Deco techs didn’t help. They tried everything too. Anyway maybe this might help someone else hopefully.

Thanks for everyone’s help!
Problem solved.

Simplisafe cameras use older tech, not compatible with modern mesh wifi and they want us to dedicate a non-mesh, different SSID at 2.4Ghz 802.11g? Not a chance. Time to move onto a better company.
