Outdoor Camera plugged into an outlet?
Can the outdoor cameras be plugged into an 120 outlet, rather than running on batteries all the time?

Hi @bbonds28 ,
Yes, the Outdoor Camera can be plugged into AC with the Power Cable accessory. You can find it on this page.

Please note that the Outdoor Camera is always powered by the battery even when the battery is plugged in. This means that there's no difference in how the Outdoor Camera operates when it's plugged in vs. when it isn't. I mention this because early on there were some questions/assumptions that plugging the battery in would make the camera more responsive because it would be "always on" like the SimpliCam and not spend most of its time in standby and only waking up when it detected motion.

Given all the negative and constant complaints of the lack of battery life, SimpliSafe needs to offer power cables to anyone that has a camera and the ability to access a 120vac outlet!!!

My experience with the battery life in the outdoor camera is negative, as well. It's using the rather expensive cord and plugged in at all times and the battery has appeared to fail after approximately 14 months. The fact that the camera functions via the battery even if plugged in directly seems a poor design. I have used Ring products prior to switching to Simplisafe. I'm rather sorry I did. It is not as responsive overall as my experience with the Ring - doorbell especially.

I just purchased several of your outdoor cameras along with solar panels. I was told by your customer service that if I left the power cord plugged in 24/7 that it would cut the battery life short. The power cord should only be used to recharge the battery, and then unplugged. And, that the better option was to purchase the solar panels so it only charges the battery for several hours. Is this correct advice?

My problem was not the battery after all. I purchased a new battery and it still wouldn’t function properly. Install fully charged battery - it would flash once and not work. Lengthy time with support, resets, etc and they eventually sent a replacement which worked. I’m trying to return the new battery. I hope you’re wrong about leaving it plugged in. It would be a hassle to plug and unplug whenever it needs charging.

I'm totally confused with the above post. It makes zero sense to me to plug device into ac outlet and have the battery also,

My battery at first lasted quite a few months with the power cord plugged in, then suddenly the battery was dead. I put in a replacement battery and again plugged it into the power cord; two days later, that battery was dead. I put up a new battery 5 days ago and it's already down to 39%. I bought the power cord so I wouldn't have to continuously climb precariously to change the battery on my camera. Why did I and others pay good money for the AC attachment when I see these posts that the AC is not keeping the battery charged?

I agree with you there, because I got tired of changing my battery and bought the power attachment cord as well and if the cord is not keeping the battery charged, what good is the cord for?’I thought it would keep my battery charged and I wouldn’t have to change the battery anymore. Obviously it doesn’t, because my camera is on 39%. My cord has been in the outlet for 2 days and my camera is on 39%. The charging is worse when the weather is cold. I don’t have to charge the battery a lot during the summer. I want to know why I should plug the camera in the socket if the battery has to be charged as well. Both need to be going at the same time. What is the purpose of the power cord y’all? 🤔😟😟
