One of my outdoor cameras has a constant buzzing sound, like an insect...what could be causing this?

Hi @shawnsgray does it sound like the noise coming from SgtSam's camera here? I might need to report it to our dev team.

That's exactly the noise...appreciate the help, let me know what you find out.

Thanks!

Hi @SgtSam ,

Apologies, it sounds like you have an Outdoor Camera, not an Indoor Camera like the others in the thread. The Outdoor Camera doesn't have a shutter, and internally works very differently from the Indoor Camera. So I split off your comment into a new thread.

So you've already tried a soft reboot. Have you already attempted a firmware reset? You can do so by pressing and holding the button on the back of the camera for 16 seconds. When you release, it will reboot back into setup mode, and you can set it up again through the SimpliSafe app.

Thanks for reporting, @SgtSam and @shawnsgray . Since we now have multiple reports, that suggests something else going on. I've escalated your cases, and our Specialist team may be reaching out soon.

@Andrewmassi apologies, but not yet. The issue is still under investigation by our engineering team.

Hello,

I’m also having the same issue with this noise coming from my camera. This has actually been an issue for a couple months as I initially assumed the noise was caused by cicadas or another insect, so I ignored it. However, when I charged the battery, I heard the buzzing sounds come from the camera as it turned on.

I have tried a soft reboot and firmware reset, as mentioned in other comments, to no effect as well as altered the settings with no improvement. I can still talk and hear (somewhat) during the live feed despite the noise, but there seems to be a three second delay from when I speak into the microphone and when the camera sends the message but I’m not sure if that’s entirely related to the noise at all.

I was hoping to find a solution to this issue online but it seems as though I will have to wait for a while until one is made.

I am having the exact same issue with one of my cameras. Reboot, reset, and a battery swap were of no help.

More detailed info for troubleshooting:

I have had my cameras for over a month and the camera had not been making the noise until I swapped out the battery with a fresh one as part of the solar panel install process and the camera rebooted. As soon as it powered up it began making the noise. I tried the original battery which was at 40% charge with the panel connected, then disconnected, then the new fully charged battery again with the panel connected and then disconnected. Nothing helped.

I’m having the same issue with my outdoor camera as well. Like another has stars it’s only in live view. The noise is not there in captured videos from movement.

Same problem here. Had assumed buzzing was caused by insects at night, but when I have the camera in hand, it buzzes whenever I turn on the video feed via the app. Any ideas?

@davey_d Any luck with a solution? I was changing the battery in my camera yesterday and was using the live view to adjust it. You can feel/hear what ever is causing the noise inside the camera itself. Sounds just like the posted video.

@Jturner210@apratt

Checking in with our engineers, it sounds like we weren't able to get very far with the original poster's issue, so they marked it as a one-off, and might have just sent a replacement. Judging from the multiple follow-ups in this thread, there's clearly something else going on. I'll alert the engineers that the case is reopened.

I'm having the same buzzing sound issue with my Outdoor Camera as SgtSam. I have another Outdoor Camera for my garage in front but that one is working normally. The buzzing only comes on when I use the Live View. I sent an email to Customer Support and they recommended that I remove the camera from my system and then add it back; that did not help. I tried the firmware reset by holding the button down as well. In the app, both Outdoor Cameras are running firmware version 1.10.2.368. My work hours prevent me from being on a phone call to troubleshoot with Simplisafe techs. The camera that buzzes is still under warranty but do I risk getting a replacement if the original problem isn't solved?

Has there been any resolution to this? I’m having the same issue with one of our outdoor cameras.

Hi @kathrynlrider,

This issue is currently under investigation by our engineering team. I've gone ahead and put in a ticket with a specialist who will be able to give you a call to try a few things with that camera and see if they can get it working again.

Has anyone received a resolution from Simplisafe on this issue?  I have numerous outdoor cameras at two different properties that all have this problem when on live view.
