Outdoor camera and doorbell not secured

I cannot seem to secure the outdoor camera, it seems to just have a magnet, and anybody can pick it up, move it or steal it. Likewise, the doorbell just requires a slight upward rug and it's removed... What am I missing? All of my other security cameras are safely affixed, but these seem to be portable and stealable, I am so confused. Help?

@natesparks the doorbell pro has a security screw in the bottom, when properly installed, will prevent the unit to be pushed up and disconnected. Agree, however, if someone is strong enough, it's gone. As far as the outdoor cameras, yes, its a magnetic mount but SS does sell a security bracket for it. Again, provided a hammer or screwdriver with the correct configuration, it is gone too.  My two outdoor cams are mounted just under my gutters. so at a minimum will need a ladder to reach up and grab them.

Others may have a better way of securing the cameras and will post here.

Great answer, I am not concerned with hammers,I am concerned with the causal grab. So I will look for and order the secure bracket (outdoor) and put in the screw(doorbell), I missed the optional install with the screw. Thanks Captain!

@natesparks Glad I could help, just hope SS has the secure mount in stock for you!

Last week I spoke with tech support Re concern about how easily someone could steal the outdoor camera. His reply:

1) Camera would be of no use to anyone, as it is linked to only my system, and could not be modified (of course, the thief might not know that when he/she takes it);

2) He said SimpliSafe will replace a stolen outdoor camera at no cost, even if it was on the standard plate and magnet mount.

Can anyone verify this?

@fschwartz72 As I can tell from your post you are like me, following the great advice of "trust but verify", I will let a SS forum administrator confirm the replacement policy (for my money, I would doubt the agent was correct) and keep my comments on the camera mount.  I have two outdoor cameras, and to reach either, you need a ladder.  If a thief/evil doer has a ladder and wants my cameras, I doubt even a screwed in mount would deter them (same as the special "security screw) on the bottom of my doorbell pro...if they want it, a good tug will rip it off the wall. That said, SS does sell a more secure mount in their online store. One of my brother in laws bought two and used them to mount his cameras. Not 100% bulletproof but much more resistant to theft than the magnetic mount. Again, in my instance I am relying on the mounting height to protect the cameras from theft.

Happy Holidays!

@Captain11, interestingly, that tech was otherwise very knowledgeable. But, yes, verify!

@davey_d , can you verify?

You can go to best buy and get the arlo permanent mounts as well like I have on all 5 of mine but they are a little cheaper on the simplisafe site

@lance843 Thx, I know. Actually, I had planned to order one from SS, but held off based on the tech support guy’s assurance that SS would replace a stolen outdoor camera at no charge, as noted in my original  post, which is what I am trying to get verified by SS staff. If it’s not true, obviously customer service staff should not be saying it!  Anyone in authority care to reply?
