MOTION ALARM WHEN THERE'S NO MOTION

Ongoing issue with outdoor cameras sensing motion when there is no motion at all. It's EXTREMELY annoying; SS knows about this issue as evidenced by the multitude of complaints. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM???

Do you enjoy being woken up at 3am with a motion notification only to find out there's absolutely nothing there?? I certainly don't.

I really wish I had bought a system from a more reputable company. Or at least one that responds to and fixes KNOWN problems.

@crosby1612 I suggest you call SS and speak with a support agent on how to reduce the number of motion events. I did and got a suggestion I never thought of, using the zone feature and excluding an area around the border of the lens field of view. It helped reduce the # of events, but did not reduce them.

And now for the advertisement to SS mgt: crosby1612 asked a great, and reasonable question: When are you going to improve the motion detection of the outdoor cameras?  I have requsted this for ten years (if not more) so why stop now: When are SS product managers going to earn their keep and host webinars here in the community so they can (Heck, even attempt) to answer questions submitted by customers?

SS paid some big bucks for this new community platform. Now, spend a few more and get the webinars and answers coming!

@crosby1612 I absolutely hear you. Our engineers have identified this issue and are actively working on rolling out a solution as soon as possible. They've made a lot of progress, but there's still some work to be done.

In the meantime, our engineers have identified that making the following settings changes to the Outdoor Camera can help minimize the amount of recordings it produces:

  • Change your camera’s motion detection setting to All Motion
  • Set up Activity Zones around the camera's field of view, like a border, as Captain11 said
  • Turn your camera’s sensitivity down to Medium or Low

You can make the above settings changes to your Outdoor Camera in the SimpliSafe mobile app by navigating to Cameras on the bottom navigation bar > select the gear icon in the top right corner > select [your camera] > Motion Detection.

Honestly, customers should not have to go through this nonsense to get the system to function properly. It should just work. It does not.
