is there an outdoor camera which will work with the current (new) simplisafe system ?

I just purchased and installed a system this week and had 2 questions.
1. Outdoor camera?
2. Compatibility with NEST CO/Smoke sensors

Quick update on this. While our outdoor camera is still in development, we've released an outdoor kit to enable our current indoor camera to function outdoors. Consisting of a rubber "wetsuit" and a mounting bracket, the kit has yet to let one of our cameras fail (through many, many months of testing). They're currently only available through our support center and come in black and white. If you're looking to use a SimpliSafe camera outdoors, you're welcome to purchase one (or wait for our doorbell release!).

Best,

@Greg E., thanks for the post!  May I suggest you put a notice in the shopping area with the Simplicam so at least customers can call support to order.  Unfortunately, with no CRC, your post will be quickly buried in the forums never to be seen again. Thanks!

There are plans to do that as well! This topic comes up often in the forums, so we wanted to address it here in the meantime.

Any photos of what this looks like? I'm interested in this till you release an outdoor camera.

I wish I took a picture but of course I forgot to!

The outdoor kit is a rubber-like skin that goes over the camera and the plug. The kit comes with a new electrical cord for the camera and is much longer. Comes with tacks for securing the wire as well as a ball-style mount so that you can mount the camera on an exterior wall and has full movement. I would probably not expect it is designed to be in direct water/sunlight but the skin should certainly protect the camera from most elements.

Overall I am very pleased with this option!

Hi steve.lux89 - is it too late to snap a pic of the wetsuit?  I'm very curious how it looks and if you've had any problems since installing.  They still aren't featuring it on their website.

Also how do you hook it up to a power source?  I was thinking of putting it 10 feet off the ground but it would still have to run another 10 feet up to the eaves and into the attic to a power source.  I could have an electrician bring the power down to each camera, but that would be more expensive I feel with four cameras to install.  Can wire be spliced into the power cable to extend it?

Thanks!

The kit is $19.99 each!

I've been looking for a system that has outdoor cameras, and at this point am leaning toward the Ring system.

From a customer Simplisafe since April 2012, recommend you try SS3. You have nothing to lose with the 60 day no questions asked guaranty. Try it for a month, I think you will find it great.

Be advised that Ring requires AT&T cell service. They apparently do not support other cell providers.

Not true - I have had my Ring Pro video doorbell for over a year, successfully viewing/operating it via my T-Mobile cell phone.

@rostycom - you may be using your TMobile phone to view it, but the backup cellular for Ring is AT&T

@steve.lux89 - My answer about the Ring doorbell was correct, however I now see that I answered a question that wasn't asked!  Had I read the thread more thoroughly before responding I would have realized the discussion was about the newly released Ring home alarm system (wifi+cell connectivity), not the Ring doorbell (wifi only) that I have.  Mea culpa.

Thank you for the photos!  That was very well done.  The photo of the camera feed was very interesting.  Do you find the resolution is enough to ID someone's face?

BTW, for those interested, I got an email from SimpliSafe that the USB cord on the outdoor kit is 25' long:  "The USB cable that is included in the outdoor kit is 25ft. The USB cable is the power cord and should provide plenty of cord for you to install 20ft up."

I like the idea of the outdoor kit. The price is good.

Question: Is the camera the same as the sensors and will not function below 45 degrees?

@sign

That limitation for the sensors is from the lithium type battery, which does not fare well in the cold (though can still function with impaired performance). For the record, the All New SimpliSafe's sensors now have a range of 32-120°F.

The SimpliCam doesn't have a battery, and should have a better time withstanding winter temperatures.
