Resolved

Indoor Camera Recordings/Livestream Noise

We have identified an issue with the SimpliCam Indoor Camera, where the user may hear audio feedback or ticking noises in camera recordings and livestreams, which are not related to background noise at the actual location. We have identified a possible cause of this issue, and it should no longer be occurring on updated SimpliCams.

If you are experiencing the above symptoms, please contact our Support team for resolution.

I love this status but I just checked and it's still making the same noise. I'll use live support next week to see what they can do for me because I refuse to pick up the phone for support in 2023 for something this trivial. :)

@davey_d  I called for live support & they’re sending a new camera. Is there another way to resolve this issue?

@FMB The best way to resolve this issue is to obtain a replacement camera. Since you've already reached out to our Support team, you should receive your new camera soon!

It says it should no longer be occurring on updated SimpliCams.

How can I tell if my SimpliCam has been updated?

How do I shutoff the annoying clicking sound on my SimpliSafe camera every time I access it?

That clicking sound is probably the privacy shutter opening. Thus, to stop the sound you must configure the privacy shutter always open (off, home, and away).

4 Messages

Sorry but that explanation doesn't work for me, as the shutter is currently closed but i still hear the noise.

Not sure if will help your scenario or not but it did mine. My house is borderline dark all the time even in the middle of the day, yes I am a cave dweller. My camera in the LR was constantly clicking so I went into the camera settings and switched the "Night Vision" setting into "On" and this has eliminated the clicking on this camera. Hope it helps, I fully understand how irritating that constant clicking can be.

Ours does the same thing, it will be fine you walk in room near it click it goes walk away click, its just the night vision sensing you and it clicks on go away from it it gets enough light back click goes back off so nothing to worry about but you can go in app and change it like mikemcneil68 said turn it on or off or auto.

I have a simplisafe camera and there is a constant clicking going on in the background of the audio feed (when there is no sound in the house).  It was so annoying that I called customer support (who were AMAZING...quick and right to the point) who sent me a new device and RMA.  Unfortunately, I have installed the new camera and it has the exact same clicking issue.

Is this common across other users?  It's bad enough that I think I need to switch to a different system.  Thank you.

Has anyone had an issue with feedback noise on your simplicam?  We get a squealing noise and loud ticking noise constantly while recording or not. Is there a fix for this?

Hello

I am having an issue with a new camera, I am getting a constant static cracking sound over the audio.  I have great video and a strong network signal.  I changed 2.4 GHz channels and did not help.  I rebooted the camera multiple times same issue.   It will also drop the network connection after about 5 minutes of live viewing.Is there a fix or do I have a defective camera?

Sounds like your camera is working like everyone else's.  My 2 cameras have never had the audio working since I installed them.  One was brand new and the other one was refurbished.  If you search through the forum pages you will see you are not alone in your frustrations.  My Ring cameras have great video AND audio all of the time.

I have this exact issue. I would describe it as a fluttering sound. And the camera "disconnects' from WiFi after about the same amount of time.

I noticed the same thing. Only had system a week.

The feedback is usually caused by the devise you're using to view the camera being too close to the camera you're viewing.

I have this exact issue with two new indoor cameras placed in two different rooms. Very annoying.  I hope a fix is coming soon. Should I call support directly so at least there is a record of this particular instance?

@gregchas Thank you. Your input here is enough!

Apparently not...since the problem in general has been "in progress" for about 2-4 years it sounds like. I probably wouldn't have gone with this system or company to begin with.

I'm having the exact same issue, not very happy considering I just bought a brand new system and I'm already experiencing issues. I am, however, glad to hear the SimpliSafe have acknowledge the issue and plan to investigate.

My two questions are, when do you plan to have a potential fix and secondly, should I still contact support to make them aware of the issue.

Hi @JoeM90, thanks for your comment. The team are working on getting this resolved and I've also shared your details with our UK customer service team. As soon as they have more details on next steps they will be in touch. Thanks, Natalie

@JoeM90

Consider that the first post bringing this issue up is 2+ years old and they acknowledged the issue and said they were working on it 3 days ago. I wouldn't get my hopes up for a speedy resolution on this one but I would LOVE to be pleasantly surprised.

I just ugraded my original SimpliSafe system to the Gen 3 system 3 days ago.  I included a doorbell camera and a indoor SimpliCam with the upgrade.  I now hear a clicking sound and static as well as a high frequency squeal while viewing live feed caused by the indoor camera.  Also the door bell camera is causing the clicking and static while viewing a live feed but at a lesser volume.  I also ordered two outdoor cameras I have yet to install.  I hope that a fix for the camera situation is resolved soon.  This noise is aggrevating.

@randyth8513

The clicking and static sounds like the noise we are speaking about.

The Squeal may be from being too close to the camera... i get that sort of feed back if im too close for instance while trying to aim it...

I'm 700 miles away and get the bad sound via the Mobil app. Same as if I'm in the house itself. Proximity  makes no difference.

@gregchas

define "bad sound".

As i said, the "clicking sound" and "static" sound fits the description of the sounds we have all been complaining about / mentioning for quite some time, and i agree proximity doesn't change them.

I personally have never had a " high frequency squeal" except from feedback and am simply suggesting that randy eliminate that possibility - that's all.

Brand new system here too and the indoor camera has a clicking and fluttering ghost-like looping sound that interferes with hearing anything in the room.

Tried the chat function of customer support but ended up more frustrated dealing with someone who's communication skills were sorely lacking.

English clearly wasn't their first language as is common with a lot of tech support these days.

Also whats with the adhesive tape used for the sensors?

3-4 sensors have already fallen down -

thankfully during the day otherwise the alarm would have gone off in the middle of the night!

Hi @JJMoon I can certainly pass along your feedback to our internal teams for review regarding your recent chat experience.

For your sensors, the adhesive works best when the surface is cleaned and fully dried prior to utilizing it. If the sensors have fallen down, the best option might be to manually install them using the included mounting kit. You can learn more about mounting them for a more permanent solution here.

I have this noise also. I replaced one of my indoor cameras today and the new one has the noise also. Is there a solution yet? I noticed this thread is old.

SS engineers. I don’t think it’s the camera. I think it’s the power cable to the base station. Please send me and everyone with this problem a new power cable after you test it for this choo choo train static. Thanks

@charleskenneyjr,

The indoor camera does use a regular USB-micro cable, so you could test it with any other cable you have. However, our engineers are actually getting close to a solution already. Unfortunately, it's not something that can be resolved on your end. We'll keep you updated when the resolution is on its way.

I too also have the same issue with two out of three indoor cameras with the clicking and squealing noise when live streaming, very annoying!  Has this issue been solved yet as this thread is a couple of years old.

I'm having the same problem with a brand-new system (and I'm new to SimpliSafe).  I called tech support and they did not answer the phone.  I then called the regular customer support line and the person I spoke with had very poor English language skills and we got nowhere.  So then I started browsing the website and found this forum.  I sure hope the staff that monitors the security systems speak English and are able to accurately and quickly communicate with first responders if necessary.

Truth be told I'm getting nervous.  I may have made the wrong choice by selecting SimpliSafe.

@PrairieDweller so sorry to hear about your experience with our Support team. We'll be forwarding your concerns to our Customer Experience leadership. We want to reassure you that regardless of which team you speak with - whether it's our Customer Support team, or our dedicated professional monitoring agents - clear communication and proper training are a top priority.

Regarding the issue with your camera, our engineering team continues work on a solution. We'll let you know in this thread when we have news.

Davey, thank you for the personal response.  I decided to commit to SimpliSafe.  I let the 60-day return period expire and I even bought some more equipment under the original discount, which also expired at 60 days.

I'm greatly relieved to learn the SimpliSafe security-monitoring center is US based.  I wish your entire customer service division were also US based, but I'm aware of the tremendous amount of money companies can save by offshore outsourcing such services -- savings I hope are partially returned to customers by lower costs for service and equipment.

I even bought more indoor cameras, which I was assured are no longer making the loud mystery noises.  However, unless the ones I originally purchased can be fixed with a software patch, I'll likely send them back to SimpliSafe for replacement or repair.

Same issue. Following.

Same issue, including with the brand new cam I set up today. System was flawless until one day it wasn’t. That one day coincides with when I connected the new outdoor camera which has been bane of my existence. A camera suddenly and permanently failed, the remaining ones have that awful sound reminiscent of feedback, and the outdoor cam live feed delay is so incredible. I can be next to my Wi-Fi extender with the cam and wait 10 min for a pic to come up. Going to back everything out and remove exterior cam-of-doom and re-add all of my cams. It’s truly all garbage vid and audio now. So sad. I miss the old smooth functionality. I bragged on this system so much.

I've noticed the noise for a while now, but assumed it was the ceiling fan or something like that causing the noise.  I'm glad I found this thread and hope that they get it fixed soon.
