How do I turn off notifications for camera motion sensing?

I want the camera to record when it senses motion, and record in the timeline.
I also want notifications if the alarm actually goes off (entry sensors, etc).

But this new outdoor camera just triggers from absolutely nothing all the time, and my phone becomes unusable.

I have reduced the motion sensing squares to only cover the very still concrete floor, and set sensitivity to Low, but it's still triggering too much to be useful.

Wait, you have an outdoor camera up and running already? Please give us your thoughts on it so far!
Well, it was easy to install. Looks good. Easy to configure with motion trigger zones (which indoor cameras don't seem to have).

I like the magnet mount. It makes it easy to point and rotate just the way I want it.

The manual, though, only refers to this weird measurement of "7/64th inch" for the screw. That's apparently 2.7mm, but I needed more like 4mm, and that's without even using plugs.

But all that's missing is it not triggering every 10 minutes when nothing happens. Doesn't seem like this setting for only triggering based on people works very well.

@thomas_  you have to set the motion sensitivity correctly.  Follow the recommended default settings and it will be fine. Mine is up and running and no issues.  Recommend people only, night vision and the standard motion sensitivity.  Wide angle 1080 video is beautiful, including incredible single tap zoom.  Note I do have the optional AC power cable. No getting on a ladder in January to recharge a battery thank you.  If you have issues, call support. Please post how they do if you do call.

I will be doing a full review early next week after the holiday.
Like I said "I have reduced the motion sensing squares to only cover the very still concrete floor".

I have People Only, Low Motion sensitivity.

I don't know how I missed it, but the settings for the camera have a setting for "Motion Nofications". I'm just going to turn that off. At least if there is an event there will be a recording, which really is all I want. So I turned the settings back up, and will live with a very polluted timeline of false triggers.

Good that it's a per-camera setting, because my indoor cameras don't have false triggers.

I agree that the 1080 video is great. Night vision too.

I hope the night vision LEDs and the constant misfiring won't make the battery life too terrible.

As for changing the battery: I love the magnet mount. I don't see charging being a problem for me. I have the camera lower (no ladder), to be able to catch IDable faces even with hats and hoodies on. But I did consider putting it just below an upstairs window, which would also make battery charging easy.

I'm so glad that you figured this out! I really like this security system, but camera notifications were making my eye twitch!

Hi thomas_12282724,

Our battery life estimate of 3-6 months is based on typical use, so night vision is included.

It might be useful to know what exactly is triggering the motion detection. We're still in the process of tweaking the intelligent motion detection, so it's possible that your camera could trigger from things that aren't people, but it thinks are people-shaped. A common example that we've seen is flags that are hanging down when there's not enough wind - since it's a tall object that's moving around.

But yep, sounds like having Motion turned off entirely could work for your needs anyway.

I only turned off motion notifications, not motion events.

If I were to turn off motion events, that would just mean the camera is available on-demand to live view, right?

Hi thomas_12282724,

That's right. Assuming that you have a recording subscription, you'll still get the recordings. You just won't be notified immediately about them.

Is there anyway to stop the notifications when you’re at home so alarm is ‘off’ or ‘home’, I have an outdoor camera in the garden and get a notification whenever we move past it (which in the summer is frequent, so notifications are way too often).

@BF1234 they definitely need to implement this feature. I'm already looking at other systems that do this, or can create a notification window, etc

I have the same issue. The only solution I can see is to turn off the notifications when I am at home and turn them back on again when I set the alarm to away.

Not a very elegant solution. There should be an option to stop notifications when in off mode.

Yeah, this system is absolutely horrible for controlling anything. I wish I wouldn't have invested in SimpliSafe. Future buyers run away unless you love being pestered by meaningless notifications

Can't say that I have any problem with meaningless notifications other than the external camera as described. I am quite happy overall with SimpiSafe.
