Doorbell constantly chimes

Well this is disappointing.  Got the new doorbell and when we installed it and turned the power back on, the doorbell began to chime continuously.  Didn't even have to press the doorbell button.  Of course, then I come here looking for answers see this is becoming popular issue AND it's Simplisafe's issue... now ours.  Does Simplisafe think that every house has an old fashioned doorbell and no one has the new melody ones?  I'm not willing to change my doorbell chime.  So I guess since Simplisafe was short-sighted.... it's going back!

I had the same issue.  My digital door chime was working fine with a Ring doorbell, which required a diode across the AC terminals.

Replaced it with the SS doorbell and as soon as the doorbell received power the chimes constantly sounded.  No different w/out diode (or unsurprisingly changing the bias).

Contacted SS, and after several unhelpful calls (and no call back from a supervisor) reached another support person who said they were told that the doorbell "does not support digital doorbells'.

Of course, this isn't on the box, on the website, or anywhere else.  Back it goes.

Terrible design oversight and marketing.  I'm new to the SS system and have otherwise been impressed but it, but this one's a dud.

Let me begin by saying I do not have the new SS doorbell. I did have a similar problem using an electronic doorbell and changing to a lighted doorbell button. There was enough current flow through the bulb in the button to keep the chime active as though the button were being pressed. I wired two 5 watt resistors in parallel across the chime. (thus creating an approximately 15 ohm 10 watt resistor) This dropped the voltage going to the chime when the button was not being pressed. This would probably solve the buzzing problem and/or the staying on problem with the SS camera button. The resistors need to be wired on the actual chime, not on the SS button. Worth a try at least. Resistors are cheap.

Absolutely true, but it's a horrible design,  documentation and support oversight to not a) know this is an issue, and b) not have a solution.

Ring includes a diode.  Incremental product cost: $0.01 - rounded up to the nearest penny. Adding one or two load resistors to the package wouldn't budge the cost needle either.

It's just a bad design and QA miss, and is likely going to result in a lot of returned product.

Has anyone solved this issue?  I've read about resistors and diodes but don't know if any of that would work.  Thanks.

Although my doorbell chime did not ring on its own, after installing the SS doorbell it would not ring properly. Contact SS and they sent me a Doorbell Chime Connector for free, which after installing, resolved the issue.

I wanted to post an update.  I received the Chime Connector and installed it on the digital doorbell of my old and retired Nutone intercom system.  It worked!  Before the install the doorbell constantly rang once I put the camera in place.  This time I heard nothing, but also saw no lights on the camera.  I thought something else was wrong by it was just the camera charging up for about 2 minutes.  Afterwards the camera came on and the install process worked just like the other cameras.

So call SS and they will sent you the Connector Kit.  It worth a shot.

Also, my system had two doorbell wires, Front and Back, I disconnected the Back wire as we don't use that.

Did not work for me. I have some old Radio Shack alarm system with a doorbell. Chime Connector did not work at all. Lots of wasted time on this; 3 calls, remove install remove doorbells; probably wasted 5 hours on this. For the world's best security system it would seem a digital doorbell compatible system wouldn't be SO difficult now would it?

Recently purchased the doorbell as well.  Same issue.  Continuous ringing of a digital chime after installing the front plate (Camera) of the doorbell.

With the diode installed, the chime would ring continuously.  Without the diode, the chime gave a soft repeating static tone, similar to the tone of an alarm clock.

After reviewing the wiring numerous times, I came to this thread to find out others were having the same issue.

I contacted SS, who informed me that the doorbell is NOT compatible with a digital chime, and a mechanical is required.

To note, I also asked about a "chime connector" which was referenced in this thread, and the SS rep was unaware of it.

The SS rep gave me a specific mechanical chime 'manufacturer and model number' that can be found at a big-box home improvement store.  He suggested that another customer had the same issue and purchased that chime - which resolved the issue.

Hope this saves others some frustration.

Which mechanical chime was recommended?  I'm in the same boat, and my current doorbell doesn't ring but so well anyway, so I'd prefer to replace it with one I know will work with the SImplisafe doofbell camera.

Same issue 12/06/2019. Called customer service. Disconnected once and 10 minutes hold on second call but problem was instantly recognized and connector will arrive free in 3-5 days. Now to test rest of system installed today.
Did the connector fixed your problem? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

This problem has obviously been going on a long time. I have had two SimpliSafe systems that I have loved. One house has the mechanical doorbell and works reasonably well. The audio is not great but works well enough for me. But my other home, when installed had the same issue as so many others here. Rings constantly. Why after so long have they not fixed this problem. I got the chime connecter. Same problem. I’m sick of it and thinking about going to ring or some other system. This is ridiculous.

@pastorbrucescott The Video Doorbell Pro that is constantly ringing, is it also connected to a mechanical doorbell? The Video Doorbell Pro is not compatible with digital doorbells, so if it connected to a digital one that could be the reason why you are experiencing this constant ringing.

Can anyone give me the brand and model number of a mechanical chime that will work with this system?  The connector did not work for me.

Thank you.

@jdh090 you're saying you're seeing the same symptom - a constant buzzing or repeated chimes coming from your doorbell?

We don't have specific recommendations for brand/model. But you're looking for any mechanical or analog type wired doorbell, that works with a 8-24VAC, 10-30VA transformer. If the Chime Connector isn't helping, then it's likely that the issue is either that you have a digital type doorbell installed, or it's supplying a voltage outside of our recommended range.
