Doorbell camera.

I'm one that would rather for a crook to not know they are being watched. can the doorbell camera be a stand alone camera?  I understand the battery charges through the door bell wiring, I also noticed what looks like a charging port on the camera. Can the battery be charged via a cell phone charger. then install the camera up in a corner of the porch or some where besides at the doorbell location??  At my shop, we use the RING doorbell cam, but have them mounted under the front porch roof. We do have to charge them periodically.

Connecting new doorbell to existing wired doorbell results in constant ring inside.  Anybody else have this issue?

When you say a "constant ring inside" are you saying there is a buzzing sound coming from the chime by chance?

I'm having the same issue as the previous poster.  By "constant ring" it's just that, my doorbell chime runs constantly on a loop - ding ding ding dong, ding ding ding dong - over and over.  When I unhook the doorbell camera from the mount, essentially breaking the power connection, the chiming stops.  When I reconnect, it starts back up again.  No buzzing, nothing but constant doorbell chime.

Not sure what the port is for as for charging wise but you coukd just get a simplicam and put out there but the doorbell has to be wired as the charge on it will not last very long at all if not plugged in. @rlbingle you qill have to unfortunately call ss and get a chime connector to put in and its super easy to do that will stop the constant humming as we had to do it with ours. But seeing how getting in touch with them is absolutely ridiculous i suggest calling at 9 am est and press 1 for sales as they sometimes answer faster and just put it on speaker and go about your day until they answer but this should take care of your humming sound

These doorbells are not compatible with a digital doorbell. If you have one you'll need to buy one that's not digital. If you still get the buzzing you can call Simplisafe and they send you this little doo-hickey to put on which should solve the problem.
