Does a video doorbell camera require a doorbell to work?

Does the video doorbell require a previously installed doorbell or one to be installed to work? I don't have or want to have a doorbell in the house. I want the video doorbell to notify me of activity to a remote home we have. When someone triggered the motion sensor or pushes the button.

Hi everyone,

The Video Doorbell Pro plugs into your existing wired analog doorbell system - for both power and sound.

However, if you're primarily interested in a fully wireless camera that can watch over your doorstep, the Wireless Outdoor Camera might be what you're looking for. Check it out here.

please make WIRELESS video door bell available. This is a needed product.

At a minimum, you will need a power source.  I think some folks have posted about getting a power supply/converter and connecting the door bell to the supply.  You won't get an indication from the SS base station.  You should get the notifications on your phone and see the video and communicate with someone at the door.

If you purchased directly from SS, give them a call and they'll send a return postage label and give you a full refund.

I'll just get a transformer and wire it up. It would just be nice to know ahead of purchase to know I'd need to hard wire it.

Note that not only do you need a power supply, but without a doorbell installed, you won't get any "ding dong" from someone pushing the button.

It tells you on the website that an 8-24 VAC is required to power the doorbell.
