Can You Keep the New SS Outdoor Security Camera Re-Charged with a POE to USB 5V Adapter?
I don't have a SS system as of yet. One obstacle for me to select SS is that I don't want to deal with recharging cameras. Our new house will be getting some POE (Power Over Ethernet) ports installed on the outside eaves/soffits for future camera locations. From there I can install an injector if one isn't provided.
I've found some adapters that can convert 48V POE to also provide a 5V USB port at the wall plate to be a power source for charging phones, tablets, etc.
Is there any reason I couldn't use one of these adapters to power/recharge a SS outdoor camera (via a USB to USB-C adapter) to draw power and keep it recharged?
Thanks,

Hi @trhao ,
Our Outdoor Camera does mainly run by battery power, which lasts about 3-6 months. It also connects to the internet only through WiFi, so ethernet is not an option.
As far as power goes however, we also have the Power Adapter - a 5v plug and a super-long and very tough USB cable that plugs into the camera for a watertight seal. And there's also the Solar Panel, which can keep your camera topped up with just 3 hours of direct sunlight per day.

@trhao that will work just fine, as long as the POE device can supply the amount of power the SS cameras require. It's much better than running a new SS only cable as customer support suggested.
Keeping everything dry is a challenge in this situation. You'll want a box that works like shingles or a roof, protecting the electronics from rain, but allowing air to get in and out from below for drying out and humidity reasons.
