Cameras off-line for no reason

Why do cameras go off-line? I had a power failure and now the cameras are offline. The base station appears to be healthy and is connected. Battery kicked in before, but it's back to house current now.

Hi fallon.ann.34,

First, we want to clarify that the cameras connect to our website directly through your home's WiFi - they do not link to the Base Station at all. So if there's an issue with camera connectivity, the Base Station is a bit of a red herring.

But if your WiFi ever went down, the cameras should already be automatically reconnecting on their own. You can maybe try unplugging each camera for a minute or so, and bring them closer to your WiFi router temporarily so that there's less chance of environmental interference getting in the way.

I have the same issue.  It's *always* caused when I unplug my wireless access point (usually to cut my Kids off the Internet!).  When I plug it back in the next morning, all cameras (even my doorbell) fail to reconnect.  This is sorta sucky, especially if wireless went down due to power outage while I was far away on vacation!

Yes, I have a UPS on my wireless access point, but that won't last forever and SimpliSafe needs to be a whole lot more bulletproof than this!

Mine constantly goes offline for no reason at all. Every time I check the camera it’s offline and requires reconnection

@mhowardthomas an Offline error message means that the camera is having a hard time maintaining a connection to your WiFi network. In this case, we would recommend using the Connection Check tool in the SimpliSafe mobile app.

The Connection Check tool will scan the camera's connection to your network, and provide steps on strengthening that connection.

To learn more about how to use this tool, and what your results mean, see the How to Troubleshoot Your Camera's Connection article in the Help Center.
