Camera Settings-Voice Talk

So, I have two cameras.  Both work, record, zoom etc...  In the camera settings in the app, the one camera shows a picture quality setting, that is default to 720p and it can't be changed, but it shows that setting.  I think this is the camera that came with my system.  I can press the mic button on the app and it allows me to talk through my camera.

I purchased a separate camera from simplisafe to add to my system.  This camera does not have a picture quality setting in the app, so it does not show a field that says 720p.  When I press the mic button on this camera and talk into my phone, I get strange sounds coming from the camera like its trying to allow my audio through it but it doesnt work.

Both camera are hooked up to my wi-fi and other then the mic option, they both work the same.  Wasnt sure why the one camera in the camera settings doesnt show the 720p field and if that is why the voice doesnt work?

Any ideas?

You're not testing the camera with a phone in the same room are you?  You might be hearing a feedback loop which is common when 2 speaker are in close proximity.  You'll get the same effect if you ever turn on 2 cell phones in speaker phone mode while sitting next to each other.  You'll need to test it properly with you in another room on the phone and someone else near the camera.  As far as the settings of 720p go I'm not sure why you are missing that, but the only other setting available is a much lower quality setting of 360p, which you do not want to use unless you have an extremely slow internet connection.

No.  Actually I had my wife go to the store, access both cameras.  The 720p one she was able to talk through it and I could hear her just fine.  Then she went to the other camera, the one that doesnt show 720p and when she tried to talk through it, I heard like it was trying to allow the audio through but it didnt work.  I reset this camera and then I removed the camera from my system, reinstalled it and same issue.  I am wondering since I ordered this camera separately from SimpliSafe after the fact, if I got a bad one or an old one because as you noted, not seeing the 720p makes me wonder...  I sent an email to Simplisafe but from what I see/hear, it will take awhile for them to respond.  I also unplugged both ends of the cable and ensured they are snug/fit.  Also the camera that has the 720p setting, there is no option to lower it to anything else.  That is the default.

Short of any other self-troubleshooting steps, yes, there have been reports of dysfunctional cameras in which SS is usually always happy to replace.  Just call and they'll most likely send out a new one with no hassles.

I called customer service and told them about this.  While I was on the phone, I gave them the exact camera and serial number and while she was doing stuff on her end she had me go back and look at the camera settings and go figure.........it showed 720p.  So either something in the system finally updated the camera or she did something on her end, either way, it works now, has a better picture and the audio works and now you can talk and hear from the camera.  Go figure.....  Thanks for everyones help.

The cameras were pretty buggy with early firmware.  You may have gotten one that's been on the shelf a while and needed to get updated.  Either way, glad it's working.
