Camera Privacy Shutter open on "off" mode when "open for HOME mode" selected??

I know about the (apparently) random solid blue light some get when the camera should be "off"..... but, couldn't find my specific issue elsewhere on Forums:

I know the usual default setting for the Privacy Shutter is "closed" for OFF and HOME modes and "open" for AWAY modes (allows for a few extra seconds of video if an alarm goes off on AWAY mode)...

But, I recently wanted to change my HOME mode cameras to "open" so I could keep an eye on my pets without them being disturbed by the "click" of the privacy shutter.

But, when i made this change (only changing HOME to open - but leaving OFF on closed).... the privacy shutter is open EVEN in OFF mode???   (i.e., shutter is never closed in any mode -- and blue light is always on).............

when I change back to normal defaults setting (closed in OFF/HOME) -- everything is fine.... but changing the HOME mode shutter to open also makes the shutter stay open when OFF mode....

anyone else ever have this problem???

I just noticed this same issue. I changed to have my privacy shutter open during Home mode. Now I'm getting motion notifications with the camera even in off Mode. Anyone?

Camera issues for sure.,... I'm on my 3rd one...tech support has been VERY responsive, but I didn't sign up to be a beta tester.
Everything was working OK with camera #2 until I disarmed the system from the app while in my driveway. Camera came ON and stayed ON for 2 days. Blue light on, shutter open. It functioned, I could monitor it, but no joy in getting the shutter closed or blue status light off.
They had me reboot the base, remove and reinstall the camera, change the settings to off-on-off; on-off-on; stand on one leg and face north while holding my phone in the air..that almost worked.
This camera appears to be working for now. I am pleased with the rest of the system, it works as intended, but I'm not too confident in the camera. I have not yet tried to duplicate the issue that caused #2 to crap out (fear???) ....but plan on doing so later today.
Call tech support, they have been responsive ...they didn't build the stuff and they DO try to help. Obviously, someone in QC in China is pissed off at the US.

I guess so..  The Privacy Shutter is a great idea (does set SS apart)... but a great alarm system camera doesn't begin and and with just that.....

Clearly integration issues with the Camera, Base station, desktop web page and the phone app all playing nice.....

I have a similar issue....my camera is set to have the privacy shutter closed for "off" and "home" modes, but the blue light is on and the shutter is open, and I am continually getting motion detection alerts from the camera while the system is set to "off".  I'd really like to clear this up, but don't know how.  I guess I'll call tech support tomorrow...

where do i go to tell the camera to be closed when off / home?  My shutter is constantly on....at one point i did get the shutter to close and open when the alarm is on but i cannot get it to this again?  Customer Support sucks...i've had to call them a # of times and no help in sight.

when they tell me to go to a certain sight on their app it is no where to be found.

so how do i tell the camera to be closed for off and home modes?

@kashul24 keep us posted, please. So far camera the third (2 replacements plus original)  is working for me. One time I did have to go to the keypad and push "off" (it was already off) to get the shutter closed and light off. But since then, it's been working OK. I have engaged and disengaged the camera a few times while the system is off and the shutter did close immediately and the status light went out.
i shut the system off from the car with the app and the camera did NOT come on like last time. I do not have the motion sensor engaged on the camera...too scared. :)

I'm having a similar problem. Privacy shutter stays open when 'home' is set to closed and 'off' is set to closed with 'away' set to open but will close when 'away' is set to closed. I just double checked the system status and noticed the phone app shows the system in away mode but I just pushed 'off' on the keypad and I'm sitting in my office. The phone app's status doesn't accurately reflect the actual status of the system. It won't let me force a refresh because I'm not on the interactive plan.

So it sounds like the phone app thinks the system is in 'away' mode when it's not, which is keeping the privacy shutter open. I should be able to refresh my phone app status without having the interactive plan.

Update: I cycled the keypad through different modes until my phone app displayed properly. In 'off' mode with the privacy shutter set to 'away' = open and 'off' = closed the shutter stayed closed. Hope this helps.

Same problem with my camera. This is how I would like my camera to work:

Away = Open
Home = Open
Off = Closed

However, when the system is off, the camera stays active despite the fact that Off should indicate it in closed state. I had to set it this way for it to work:

Away = Open
Home = Closed
Off = Closed

When set this way, in Off mode the closed state is respected. This means I lose the Home mode functionality where the camera can be in pre-roll mode.

Is this an actual hardware problem or a software problem?

I'm having the same camera shutter always open even when it should be closed.  I'm a new customer and so far I like the system, but is there always a lack of customer service responses on the forum?

^ since around last November, the forum has had very little response from reps other than an occasional post - in last couple weeks, a tad more response, but not consistent.  We've been asking for the search function to be placed again on the forum (it's been gone for several months) - to no avail.

If you need trouble-shooting an issue, best to call simplisafe and ask for a supervisor if necessary.

With our most up to date version of our app, we provide the option to change the privacy shutter settings for all three modes (Home, Away, and Off). Here are instructions to change these settings:

  1. When viewing cameras on your smartphone app, select the gear icon in the bottom left hand corner.

  2. Select the camera that you wish to edit.

  3. Select Privacy Shutter.

  4. Select which mode you would like the change.

  5. Save your settings.

If you cannot find these settings, try updating the app!

I updated the app and there are no modes listed under Privacy Shutter.
Instead, it says:
"Want to control your privacy shutters automatically? With a SimpliSafe Security System,
you can choose to open or close individual camera shutters based on the state of your
security system."

Then it says "shop systems".  That's it. No modes. Please help.

@brucep9696

A Monitoring Plan is required in order for your SimpliCam to receive messages from the system on when it is set to Home, Away, or Off.

If you don't have a Monitoring Plan (i.e. your SimpliCam is functioning as a "standalone" unit), it will activate when the Motion Sensor is activated.

Happy to report... after keeping an eye on this thread... that both the desktop website and the iOS phone app seem to correctly work (at least for me)  and allow me to set camera shutter to open or closed in any mode (OFF/HOME/AWAY) as needed.

If something was updated/changed.... glad to see.  In any event... glad it's working!

@rlukas13

To access the Camera settings for each SimpliCam, head over to the ‚ò∞ Menu:
  1. Tap Cameras.
  2. In the Cameras page, tap the ‚öôGear icon on the top right.
  3. Under Camera SettingsAll of your SimpliCams should be listed. Tap each Camera to select it.

The settings for the individual SimpliCam that you selected should now be displayed. To modify settings for other SimpliCams, you'll need to hit to < arrow on the top left of the page to go back to the main Camera Settings page.

I have this problem as well, and it seems to be related to arming and disarming with the fob.  If you use the fob the camera shutter does not close.  I assume it has to do with the camera not working through the main control.

The solution is found is to arm the system at the keypad and let it fully arm.  (Use home)  Then disarm and the camera will reset.
