Camera is hardly ever online

The camera is literally 3 feet from a router, but rarely streams all day. It's been down for hours. What am I paying for?!

Hi @teewordy,

Since the camera is only three feet from the router, the issue is most likely not with the WiFi signal from the router to the camera. Try running a speed test on the camera to see if perhaps it may be a bandwidth issue. To run the speed test through the SimpliSafe app, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the Cameras tab in the SimpliSafe app
  • Tap on the ‚öô Gear icon
  • Select your camera
  • Scroll down to the Connection section on this page and choose Connection Strength
  • After tapping on Start Connection Check you'll be prompted to start the test
  • Select "Let's Go"
  • After 1-2 minutes, you should have your results and the app will explain them a bit

In order to have a reliable connection for your cameras, you will need to have at least 2 Mbps of upload speed per camera. If you are still having trouble and your speed test returns good results try contacting our Support Team to do some more in-depth troubleshooting.
