Camera exposure issue - white image

One of my cameras has developed a fault where the contrast is totally wrong. The image is really bright and it's almost impossible to see anything - it's like it has a white filter over the lens.

Usually when the shutter lifts, the exposure level adjusts to let in less light. Mine doesn't it just stays too bright.

Has anyone seen this?

Camera is outdoors but has case and is sheltered. Plus it's in UK, so it's certainly not overheated ????????

@bnatl1 so sorry to hear about your experience, but thank you for the feedback. I'll forward to our Support team's leadership.

Where are you now on the issue? One possible thing that might help:

  1. In the SimpliSafe app, navigate to Menu > My System > Camera Settings > [Your Camera]
  2. Under Picture Quality, set it to a different option (e.g. 480p, if it wasn't set to that already).
  3. Hit Save on the top right.
  4. Go back to Picture Quality and set it back to your preferred setting.
  5. Hit Save again.

Toggling the setting might force the camera to re-adjust to the scene with the correct exposure.

Mine started doing this exact thing today!  It is outside but it is sheltered and has the outdoor kit from Simplisafe and I live in up state Wisconsin right off of Lake Superior.  So it is certainly not over heated.  Did Simplisafe give you a response yet?

After I told them their glare explanation was ludicrous because it had always worked in that position before, they replaced it. Weirdly the camera did appear to work again after a few days of being off. So maybe try that?

Just experienced the same issue.  I unplugged for a couple minutes andt as ollie_s mentioned...that worked.  That said, if it happens again I'll be asking for a replacement.

I too am experiencing this same issue, as of last night. It clearly is a defect in their camera.  Hopefully they catch on sooner rather than later and offer an update to correct it, other than simply unplugging the device.

Same issue here. Started with one camera and now the second one. But the first one worked again now.

Having the same issue with the white overexposed screen but not at home presently, can't unplug and try later not sure what to do to get it back operational???

If you are not there to unplug it I don't believe there is any type of remote restart/reboot you can try. Far as I know the only reboot is a hard reboot by unplugging it for a minute or two.

@whoaru99 I'm glad my niece and sister are able to enter my home when I'm away.  One of my cameras started doing this over-exposed issue today, and I'm home, so I'll do the unplug replug trick.  It's annoying!

The Tech support person I got today about camera being only white no picture was unhelpful and borderline argumentative. I've been a Simplisafe customer for years and have always gotten excellent service and great helpful people. Wish I had aske her name .. My name is OConnor in Georgia with two current accounts. Hopefully the call was actually recorded and she can be retrained. Issue not resolved.

This worked for me and enabled me to correct the issue remotely which was a huge relief as we are not home to unplug the camera.  I had tried adjusting the Night Vision setting for the camera because it seemed to me that the low light setting might be "stuck" on causing it to overexpose during the day but that didn't fix the problem.   Changing the Picture Quality worked for me.  Thank you.

I just experienced this problem, reset the picture quality to 480p, picture is good to go. I’ve used simplisafe for several years now, glad this fix resolved my problem.

Changing resolution fixed the image. Changed it back and is still fixed.  Thanks

Outdoor camera started showing green exposure bright light on live video. I tried to hard reset and changed the picture quality settings and didn’t help. Chat with a support personal and he also couldn’t help.
