Push notification sound categories

I know how to assign custom sounds to Simplisafe app notifications, but I want to know how to control them accurately. You can set notifications for each camera to on or off, but then in the System Settings there are there are these generalized category names:

I want a loud sound for when my alarm is actually triggered but a softer sound for when the cameras detect motion. I can set the doorbell ring sound but it doesn't change the doorbell cam sound. Everything seems lumped under "miscellaneous."
Is this not possible?

Hi Jack,

Yes, right now that's how alerts through the app are categorized, with all Smart Alerts under "Miscellaneous". I'll pass on your suggestion to our dev team.

@davey_d Thanks for the answer. This is disappointing. I'll cross my fingers!

Other than the Doorbell, what does the other categories control?

I will second the notion to provide for different app alert types for different system notifications, and particularly a separate alert solely for system alarm notifications.  Given the level of importance of being made aware of alarms, or false alarms, how the app does not already have this capability escapes me.  I hope implementation of this additional functionality receives expedited attention from the development team.

You say you assigned custom sounds to the Simplisafe app... do you have an Android or iphone?  I'm hearing that iphone doesn't let you assign sounds to third party apps?  I can only find where to turn the sound off/on, not set the sound to be different from other notifications such as texts...

I got a notification that someone replied to this thread asking if I was using iOS Or Android and saying that iOS doesn't allow for this kind of functionality to begin with. But when I came to reply the post seems gone.

I am using Android. If it is in fact true that iOS restricts notification sound assignment from third party apps, it makes sense that Simplisafe drank the Kool Aid and designed it this way, without consideration for other platforms.

Unless an iFollower complains about something, it almost never gets addressed. I won't hold my breath for the change!

Jcmaedl - You said you know how to change sounds for Simplisafe on Android.  Would you mind posting how you do that?  Thanx for any help

Sure, I can try, but it depends on your phone and Android version. Can you share those?

My original post has pictures from Android 11 on a Samsung phone. The process I follow is:

Phone settings->Notifications

Search for Simplisafe in the list, might have to tap "more" to see it. Then change sounds as you see fit.

The process on your phone should be similar.

Simplisafe is unable to tell us what the different categories are and has confirmed you can't set a separate sound for different events aside from doorbell. However, by setting the "Miscellaneous" sound, all alerts will show with that sound.

@coonmichael09 hi! Go into Settings》Apps 》 Scroll to SimpliSafe 》Notifications 》Notification Categories.  Now good luck trying to figure the Categories out.  That's where I get stuck lol!
