Phone app - one account/2 household members

Can both my husband and myself have the phone app installed? I am the primary account holder and the app works fine for me and I used it to set up the system, but when he tries to configure the app it is asking him to set up a system first. There doesn't seem to be a way for him to connect to an existing system. He is specified as a secondary contact on the account. How can he and I both have the phone app installed for the same account?

Hi @hedrichm ,

Primary and Secondary contacts only denote who is called during an emergency, and when. So they don't affect who gets to access your account.

Right now, SimpliSafe accounts are set up as single-user login only. But so long as you log in under the same email and password, you can have access on as many devices as you like.

@davey_d So what about the verification code? Main phone is with primary user on the other side of the county and phone is muted for meeting (hours long meeting from h***). Spouse is at the door, knows login/pw but verification code is sent to primary user phone. How is that supposed to work?

@ScottK61 you'll want to set up a second 2FA contact as well. You can find the setting in the SimpliSafe app, under Menu > Manage Account > Multi-Factor Authentication.

When you need to log in again, you'll want to make sure that your own phone number is selected before sending the verification code.

@davey_d Is there a way "now" to separate the two? Meaning Husband and Wife having the same login-in the event of ab argument? If not, can I stop all camera access from my spouse somehow but allow access to arm and disarm?

@LindaHolsinger13 at this time, no.

You can set up Multi-Factor Authentication for multiple phone numbers. That means that you'll still have to log in with the same username and password. But you can get the confirmation code sent to yours or your husband's phone numbers (so there's no need to coordinate and share that code with each other). Learn more about that here.

But once you're logged in, you'd have the same full access to the whole account.

Correction: he's listed as a PRIMARY contact, not a secondary contact. I just want to make sure he has the ability to control all aspects of the system in case I'm not able to, and also be able to use the phone app to arm/disarm the system. That's such a handy feature and I expected that to be simple to set up.

@hedrichm Yes, you and your husband can use the the app on the same account with no issues. if the alarm goes off, dispatch will try and call the primary, and if no answer, the secondary. (Note, you can change this by calling SS support directly in the future.

Have a great weekend.

Being able to give users access (and revoke access) via the app or online should be a feature of SimpliSafe. There are a lot of management access settings in the app that I don't want others to have access to, but other household members or family members could benefit from having the app on their phone.

I concur! Also being able to add temporary pin codes with changeable time windows for contractors, employees or friends, etc would be great.

When I try to login as to SimpliSafe as me on my wife’s phone, the face recognition blocks me. Anyone else had the problem? Solution? Just happened after new iPhone and new OS. Surely Simplisafe doesn’t mean to block other household members. Hope there is a fix because without one I will be forced to find a new security system.

@david_brooks If I understand your post correctly, your Face ID is not going to work on your wife's phone if her face ID has been registered.  As far as handling mutiple users, not support now but I believe it has been submitted and in development by SS.
