The SimpliSafe app on Apple Watch continually shows "refreshing" unless I first open the app on my phone. Any way around this? It makes using the watch to arm or disarm useless.

February 2022- Current Apple Watch and OS, current iPhone and iOS. The SimpliSafe watch app still doesn't work, a year after the post.
The SimpliSafe app on the Apple Watch has only one function- to arm or disarm the alarm system, and that only works if the SimpliSafe app on the iPhone is open. Close that app, and the watch app won't work at all, whether the iPhone is awake or asleep. It seems the watch app was designed to be a remote control for your iPhone app if that is first opened, which is pretty pointless.
Same issue here. The app just goes in to refresh mode. I actually called and spoke with a lady with customer service and she didn't even know there was a watch app and said she'd help me try to figure it out. As if someone that didn't even know there was an app is going to help.
She tried to find someone that had some knowledge of it but no one was available in the meantime I came across this and let her know that it sounds like even Simplisafe knows it's an issue but doesn't have a fix.
Very disappointing! I get that this is no Vivint alarm system but I sure expected more.
This is a relatively new development as the app used to work beautifully on my older Apple Watch,
Which always surprise me because I found Simolisafe software in general to be very basic.
I just set up my new SimpliSafe system and it was easy. I use the app on my iPhone no problem and saw they also have an Apple Watch app. I installed it but when it starts it just says “refreshing” and never gets further. I read some other questions from a long time ago and tried opening the app on my phone as well as deleting and reinstalling the app on my watch. Nothing works. Any help?
Just here to report I have the same issue. Have had my system for a year, installed and reinstalled the app countless times and nothing works. It would be great if it could work

Not sure why, but since I upgraded to a 13PM a couple of weeks ago, the watch app has been working. As in, I don't need to open the phone app to get the watch app to work. It did the "refreshing" thing once, but hasn't done it again.
I have learned that if I turn the cellular feature on my Apple Watch, (I do have a cellular plan on my Apple Watch’s) it allows me to use the Watch App.
If I leave the cellular off, I get the refresh screen.
@PappaBear97304 I checked and unfortunately that didn't work for me.
With that being said, I did notice that if the SimpliSafe app was open on my iPhone, then the Apple Watch works. That's inefficient as I don't want to have apps running constantly in the background.
Would like to see SimpliSafe respond and fix this please.
Bought new iwatch 7…..Simplisafe app only works on the watch when also open on the iPhone..what a joke. It should be very basic. Seriously thinking about canceling Simplisafe all together. Paying almost $30 a month, should be able to arm and disarm my alarm.
I agree. Horrible apple watch app...worthless actually. It just sits and "refreshes", I've never had it actually work even though I have a watch that has its own cell service so therefore should work as a standalone device.

It likes this problem has been around for a while without resolution even though Simplisafe states that the software bug is being addressed.
A question for SimpliSafe Support : Wat can you do to raise the Severity of this bug so that it will be fixed in a timely manner?

The app is not simple or safe.

Over a year ago the developers were looking into this. Have they given up on resolving this? Clearly nothing has changed since.
Now, the Apple Watch complication is missing y my list to add to a watch face.
Wondering if SimpliSafe is quietly removing the App functionality.
