SS3 sensor adhesive tape strips

If you need extra adhesive strips for you SS3 sensors and order them online through SS, you will get the strips for SS2 sensors which are longer.  I've contacted a manager and was told that the SS3 strips are only included with the sensors and they don't have replacements.  After 4 failed orders of getting the right strips, I measured the SS3 strip and found that 3M Command makes a strip to the exact size as SS3 strips. The 3M part/model number is 17024. I've ordered these from amazon and they are an exact fit to the new SS3 sensors. Seems like they are even better quality than the strips that come on the sensors from the manufacturer.  Hope this helps!

Isn't it amazing that the community knows more than SS support?   The forums are SS's best asset and yet they put the least effort and resources into it.  They say they can do a better job over the phone and you've just dis-proven them.  Nicely done and thanks for information.  It's all yours Captain.

Look at it from a different perspective, if they spend no resource on this site and we (the users) are able to provide a higher level of service, they can spend their financial and personnel resources on ....

For those that have uneven walls (my builder wasn't too exact in measurements) Lowes sells 3M strips that have adhesive on one side and velcro on the other. Excellent for motion sensors that don't quite fit well with just the thin strips, especially the SS3's as the outer housing is rigid and doesn't give like the SS2 motions.

Captain, what I've done with the motions and glass breaks is once set in place by the command strips and everything is where I want, I installed the tiny screws that are included with the sensors just in case the strips fail. I do agree with you about the thicker strips for uneven corners.

Due to this post, I just realized that my SS3 system shipped with some adhesive strips called "Removables" by a company named Hookz. I am not too sure how I feel about that. I removed the components from SS2 with no issues to the surfaces I adhered them. I also did not have to use screws to mount any sensors or the keypad (which held for three years). The 3M strips SS2 came with worked as intended but who knows what the results will be with these. I cannot even find them online - which means there are no reviews that show what I can expect in their ability to do the job and if they are going to take paint (or more) with them upon removal.

I find it rather odd that I cannot find them in stores or on Amazon.

Oh well, if something drops and breaks, I will make sure SimpliSafe is on the "hook" for swapping in a lesser known product.

The strips that come pre-installed on SS3 sensors are indeed a brand called "Hookz" a company out of Australia and not sold in the states. I swapped all of my strips out for the 3M command which I purchased at amazon. 136 strips for $18.00.  Didn't need that many but I have them just in case. They are the exact size as the "removables" that ship with all SS3 sensors except the entry and magnets. For the entry and magnets you will have to trim about 1/4 inch off so the pull tab does not show.

I used the supplied strips and they worked well, except for the corners of rooms that my ace builder couldn't do right; there used 3M strips with velcro.  They are awesome.

As I trust your experience, I am glad to hear you have confidence in them, Captain.

I only have one of my SS3 motion sensors adhered to the corner of a wall (the others are on bookcases and shelves). That one fell within hours of install. Luckily it did not fall while it was armed and I was away (it fell within 20-30 minutes of my returning home). None of my previous sensors (including the keypad) ever fell with the 3M strips. I stuck it to the wall again and tested it by placing some weight on it. So far it has not dropped for the second time. I am hoping it continues to hold; I do not wish to use screws.

(And I always use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface before application)

@Shiherlis, you may have a builder for your home similar to mine. :-).  If the walls are not true, there could be a sizable gap as the SS3 motion sensor housing is very rigid vs the SS2's that would bend to match the surface of the wall. If you do have a Lowes near you, they carry a 3m strip that says "designed for IRIS" that has velco on one side.  The sticky side mounts on the wall like the normal ones, but has velcro on the other.  You put another set on the sensor housing so the two velco sides contact each other.  You can almost do chin ups on it once in place.  Another advantage is you can take the entire motion sensor down and put it back up again and again and still holds fast.  Believe a package of 8 sets ran about 4 bucks.

@steve_38, all the 3M products work well with SS2. The only difference was that I found on my corner mounted motion sensors, the sidewalls on the SS3 were not flexible unlike the SS2 that were, and in those instances used the velco equipped 3M strips.  Unless really uneven, you should be fine with the standard strips. As far as size, I always had on hand, and still do, a pack of small, medium and large.  You can always cut to size too.
